Villae Chicken,
Thanks for your explaination on the black x blue subject, I do understand what you are saying. I'm still in the process of building my flock, with my first clutch of my own breeding in the bator now, due next Saturday! It also depends on my limited space right now, so the blues and blacks will have to be combined for awhile. Even with the BCM flock, although they all come from similar lines, who knows for sure? I guess I'll just have to see what comes about with this hatch, then start my culling program from there. My two blue copper boys, the older ones,
(NOT PINK'S!!!), are already destined to be culled out. Pip is out too, even if he was the best Marans to ever hit the planet, I WON'T be breeding on his pee poor attitude!!
If I had had a gun in my hand the other morning, he would've met his maker right then! Pink's babies are turning out very nice, so far, at 5 weeks today. Two of the BCM pullets have the
blackest feathering of any BCM I have hatched thus far. They were from a Blue Copper x BCM, and a Blue Copper x Blue. Since you mentioned leg color, I had to go check again.
The two blue coppers have slate legs, and the three BCMs (pullets) have dark slate legs, so leg coloring looks good. So, it will be a slow process for me to grow the flock, breed selectively with single matings when I can, and cull from there. I would like to show a few birds some day, if I can find a show anywhere near me worth entering, and if I finally come up with something worth showing! I was hoping to get some Wheatens too this year, but unless I can get some help with making the other coop/run, that will have to wait. In the mean time, I am enjoying their antics...and eggs!!
