Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Can anyone help me? I'm very interested in adding Marans (preferably the black cooper, but I like the blue also) to my flock, but am having trouble finding a breeder. Can anyone help? I'm not necessary interested in showing (maybe in a few years when the kids get older), but mostly would like them for our enjoyment. They are absolutely beautiful birds. Any help would be appreciated. I've contacted Bev Davis. She referred me to H&H poultry, but I'm having a hard time getting in touch with April. Her voice mail box is full and I keep getting an error when I try to send her a email. Are there any other breeders you would recommend. Thank you. If it's been previously posted on this strand, I'm sorry I've missed it, but there's 206 pages on this post and although I'd love to read every page, I just can't. I'm sorry if it's already been asked and answered

4 eggs left to hatch? 2 of the darkest! have more fuzzy legged then not, would have liked to have seen less fuzzieless legged ones, but will give me something to work with. there may be an orp in there, with the clean leg i have no way to know! Here are the babies so far, i know i've got one more on the way, hopefully 3 more will join it soon!
what do you think on colors?

I'm thinking 4 splash, 2-3 blue and the rest black? excuse the big nose, my dog thinks chicks are for snorting! in person the blackish ones look a dark gray more then black?

And the fuzziest foot of them all!

Hello all! My first time on the coputer in 2 days! The sun is out!!! More storms coming in this afternoon though, so have to make hay while I can.

Had one chick hatch on Easter, three more hatched yesterday. Ten more eggs to go, but as usual, it doesn't look good, but it's only day 24 so will keep going a few more days. Geesh, these are my own eggs too! I had 4 short power outages, but no way they should've affected the hatch. The 4 I got are all healthy, and have some feathering on the shanks, although not as much as I'd like to see. Very strong and colorful chicks, so VC, we'll see if the light chick down coverts to overly dark feathering as they mature.

We have had 8" of rain here so far, less than some to the south who have had over 14"! More coming in the next 2 days, and maybe some showers on the weekend.

I feel like I've been waterboarded! I have a hydroponic garden and chicken run. So much thunder and lightning with these storms, it's amazing. Likely chance of tornados tonight, so I'll hold my breath yet again. I'm ready for JULY!!!

Hope all is well with the rest of you. Pink, how did your hatch go?? Now to catch up on what I've missed in here....

Morning! Hope everyone in the south that is experiencing flooding, storms and lots of rain are all safe and sound!

Debbi~ My hatch on Easter was good 2 Olive Eggers and 6 Marans. I only set 10 Marans eggs for that hatch and the 2 OE's. I still have 12 babies in the brooder looking for homes. Only one Splash and one Black Copper for the Easter hatch..the rest are of course Blue.

I looked in the 'bator last night to realize that I only have 6 eggs in the big ol' thing. There is something wrong with this picture huh?

I think I am going to take this opportunity to transfer the eggs to one of the small stryo inky's and shut it down the Sportsman and clean it out.

Congrats on the babies that you have!
