jeannie what a bummer about the coloring. I got these eggs from Gabbard Farm, all of them that you have...hmmm I can't really express my thoughts/anger in writing, on this thread....

sorry I thought I was hatching reputable eggs, DARN! I'll PM you some info about rehoming

sorry to get off topic here has anyone ever put candle wax on a cracked egg to be able to hatch it still. I have two I just got that are cracked. I normally toss but have seen people talk about using candle wax so wasn't sure if it was worth a shot or not. I would love to save these 2 maran eggs but I have others so could deal with tossing 2 if I have too.

I put a small piece of scotch tape on a cracked Barnvelder egg and it hatched just fine! Have also heard about using wax and nail polish. The tape was easy! With the nail polish I had some concerns about the fumes.......

I successfully hatched a couple with tape. I use a q tip with alcohol and then taped it with scotch tape, has worked on 2/3 or so of the eggs i've tried!

Good luck!

One of my hatches had a dent in the bottom and was cracked from shipping. I used the clear Scotch tape, and it hatched just fine! As long as it's not oozing anything, give the tape a try.

Hi, everyone.

Popping in to remind everyone about the recognition awards.

We want to validate the efforts and contributions of our members who give sooo much. This community is special because of the efforts of its members, and we all want to honor that.

NOW: get to nominating, if you haven't already!

Remember, each BYC member may nominate one member each month for each of the three recognition categories: BYC Friend, BYC Educator, and BYC Spirit. That's three nominations each month, and we want to see more submissions!

Use the Nomination Submission Form to make your suggestions.

Thanks!

What cute chicks!!
Your little blue birchen pullet looks just like mine and is about the same age. I just hatched out two more birchen one blue, and one is black. I got my eggs from someone who got thier original stock from Gabbard Farms and has been working on thier line. Hopefully these won't come up mossy. I think one of my newly hatched chicks is male for sure, he already has the roo stance and a little comb lol. Not sure about the little black one yet.

Pink ~ Love the pic of you and Bill! Whatcha got boots on for?? Your place looks WAY dryer than mine! So far 12", with more to come. Talk about depressing! Everything, including my front porch, is under water. Opened the pen today thinking the chooks would like it better on the grass, and they all gave me the stink eye like they did with the snow!

The chicklets have found the driest place to be when outside of their coop, is on top of the coop! I've never had chicks this young get up so high! 4' up at 7 weeks?? Smart little chickies!
