I hope none of our BYC friends in "tornado alley" have been ravaged this year....

Okay Village I have a question for you on my different colored "Birchen" chick who today I think might be a rooster

ignore the tumor looking thing that is a 2"hitch ball.........

another breeder was talking about Silkies said that "The rusty colour on the head of the white is autosomal red. Can be its lost in later plumage, or it stays." so what would that mean on the color of this Marans? I'm liking the colors coming in will try and post new pictures later

Thanks for the pic birdygirl!

Hmmm - my guy doesn't have the cupping effect, like that bird does.
My juvenile with the wave in his comb looks similar to that, though (the wave part, not the cupping part.)

Is the thumbprint always that extreme or does any depression at all count as a "thumbprint"

I'll try to take some better pics tomorrow and see what you guys think.
Just trying to learn!!

Can anyone show me a perfect comb for comparison??

ooo - while we're at it, Don said my guy looks like he might be narrow in the shoulders.

Can anyone show me pics of a great topline from above?? (I'm a visual learner!)

From a view above the bird, what type of triangle or trapezoid should it form or what proportions are appropriate??
Thanks!!

There is something new discussed on the Black Copper Marans thread about posting pictures in front of the Marans thread for ready reference for anyone to see. Take a look and try and help with. If you do not know for sure your marans has a fault post on one of the threads and get a quick opinion before sending to geebs.

uh... white??? is it me?? but they look like blue cochins... (or blue marans)

Hi there Pharis... I didn't see you at the swap... Perhaps you will be at the one in Oct... It is closer to you. Did you get your birds from Marty? congrats on the hatch

I bought the eggs from NorRusMarans.webs.com, I think he did say they had some black in them but pleasant to look at. That's fine with me as they are pets and didn't cost much. I'm new to chickens and incubating eggs. Maybe next year I'll pay the bigger price for pure white marans. I really like the Marans. I already have Cuckoo marans and some other on order. Where is the swap in October?
