Hang in there Mama! The chicks have to spread their wings and fly off. Just proves you did your job well. We are scattered all over the country. My sis is in Mass., daughter in TX, son in CO., and me in MO. Look on the bright side; if you didn't raise them properly, they would be lying on the couch, watching the boob-tube, in their underwear, drinking beer, in their 40s, with their kids!!

Yep it is depressing when they go off to college even if they are in the same state and go off far away. Just having them move out of the house is traumatic but it is exciting for them. Congratulations you did a great job with them. Like Debbi said lots of kids never even make it out of high school nowdays. Where is your daughter going to school in AZ?

Thanks Friends!

She's not attending school just yet and when she does (most likely she will start fall quarter) it will be the community college in Prescott Valley. Right now she is trying to get her foot in the door at a cabinetry shop for an apprenticeship (sp?) program, she has been building custom furniture since 9th grade and would like to continue on with that and is hoping to pick up some new tricks to the trade at the cabinetry shop. She would also like to go school to become a woodshop teacher, we will see what path she takes. I told her she could do both just like her favorite teacher, he teaches during the day and builds custom kitchen cabinets on his off time.

I would have a heart attack if I found a 6 ft snake in one of my coops.

I was going to use a broody but when I keep seperateing them they magically end up not being broody. Black Copper. When I get a incubator I can trust I'll get into the other colors. I really would like to work on the Blue Birchen and Black Tailed Buff but it might be a while till I find an incubator I can trust.

I hope you can get one of your girls to sit on those eggs! Tractor supply usually has cheap incubators but a little hard for beginners (little giant brand). There's always ebay...or maybe make a homemade one from a icechest.

I have a black tailed buff male but no girls for him lol. I might try and mate him to my wheaten female and see what happens.

I thought it was bad when the daughter went to San Diego for school..now she lives close to there and teaches school just bought a new home and has 2 little boys and a wonderful hubby how time flies...

On the snake same thing with my cats they just love to kill snakes if I could only get them to kill more ground squirrels....this year has been bad for those and gophers even the gophers have been learning how to get chicken feed......

Ducklover~ Many great hatching vibes coming to you for your eggs! Congratulations!

Lotsa~ I like putting a broody in with a very attentive and frisky young rooster in a small space, just the 2 of them. He will keep her busy. I use a large dog crate, after a couple days of attention from the over zealous roo, the broodies usually give up. I couldn't try to break them all this year as all of my extra space, pens, and brooders are full.

Well, c'mon! If he's not using it, start moving birds in there while he's not looking! Maybe he won't notice, and by the time he does, it will be too late!

And...nothin' wrong with the redneck sawhorse (tailgate), I use mine all the time!

Oh wow your dd must be really talented with woodworking. Sounds really cool. My dd likes to stain and paint furniture but that's about her limit LOL!
I used to know that area well. We had a family cabin in the Prescott area (just a little past Prescott valley) until a few years when the snow caved the roof in as it did alot of the cabins in the area with the heavy snowload that winter. It was up past Lynx Lake about 6500 feet up the mountain that doesn't get plowed in the winter lol. Mostly everyone in our family just used it in the spring, summer and fall. Most of my and dh's families still live in the Phoenix, AZ area.

Oooo Pink, nice to have a handy daughter! Think of all the fancy coops, brooders, and cabinet incubators she could make for you!!

Yeah I know! I wanna sneak some brooders in there too. He'd probably bust a nut though lol. I don't like the door on the building though it is a big metal building and has a roll up garage style door on it.
Next to it is some horse stalls. I already put some fencing around them and put one of the bachelor pads in there LOL. It is temporary so I can move it all if need be though.
