Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks Lynette! I'm going to try to get some Silkie chick pics today, not an easy task! Whereas I can almost pose the Marans chicks like a Gumby doll, the Silkies...not so much! The crazy little goofballs!!

Hello from Massachusetts.

Am wondering if anyone in my area has a flock of birds with a foundation of either BayHorse Bonnie birds, or from a fellow in Acushnet MA. Thanks for any information you might have.

Hello all, Just sold my entire flock of Marans through Craigslist over the past 30 days and loaded out the last 120 pullets this morning. The Wheaten were also sold so have no more Marans . I recommand that new Marans people look at craigs list as there are some good bred fowl being sold there.

I've been trying to get a day where I could get some decent pics of my silkies but it rains every afternoon lately and then they are all muddy and thier feet look totally gross caked in muck and mud. They like to play in the puddles and get mud baths.

I just came in from picking tons of wild grapes and feeding them to the chooks because it started raining again. The chickens, ducks, and turkeys are crazy for them. Our guineas can fly up and get them for themselves at 25 feet high. Its funny to see them tightroping on those old vines eating grapes.
I'm suprised there are so many left, usually the wild birds get them all. They are little purple grapes and very sweet but each one has 3 or 4 seeds in it so I don't wanna try and make jam from them.
I hardly got any blackberries this year because the hens remembered them from last year and raided all the wild bushes they could find.

Today we finally bought a new wheelbarrow. One of the turkeys kept coming up to see it because she is nosy and has to see anything new. Dh put her in the wheelbarrow and she sat down in it. Then he wheeled her all around the yard and she sat calmly bobbing her neck like she was walking. When he quit she wouldn't get out so I lifted her out (she is getting fat and heavy) but she kept trying to get back in it. I believe she liked going for a ride lol.
