I have allot of other youngsters growing out but most not much to look at yet. Still to young to tell much. Hoping when we get back from the lake and state fair to look for some more wheatens, splashs, and maybe a few others but we will see. Only have 2 wheaten hens right know and several roo's lol. I have more roo's then hens I believe on black coppers also, But gives me more choices to pick the best ones also.

I am assuming that you are referring to Golden Cuckoo's.....yes they can be shown, I don't remember the class they are put in, something like AOV (All Other Varieties
hu.gif
), I know Snowbird or someone knows better than I will pop by and correct me and give you the right answer

I don't believe the proposed standard for the Cuckoo's has been completed so it has not been submitted yet to the APA for approval and acceptance, but the Marans Clubs are working on them. Hope this helps!

Kim, I agree with AOV or AOC and the bird can only win in that class can not advance to BOB - ROB. If you are planning on showing at a Fair you would need to ask the Fair if they have the AOV class. The local fair where I live does not take any AOV fowl. Lets put it this way they do not take any that are not a recognized breed Variety.

Hi Flgardengirl,

That's too bad about the Blue Copper male.....We buy store brand "Cheerios" in huge bags, and use them to bribe everyone in at night. Chickens appear from allover when they hear the bag shaking......still have trouble with the salmon faverolle hens...there is always One with a gleam in her eye, and last one in....

sorry need to vent. I've been having a hard time with my marans journey.... i had a hard time tracking down someone to buy just blue (non coppered) hatching eggs from. I want even picky about the color, i just wanted blues/splash. i had lined up eggs in the past winter from 2 different ladies (from this forum) in the winter for spring eggs. both ended up ignoring me when the spring came. I finally line some up pop them in and it has been 3 or 4 months now, not sure off the top of my head about the date. at any rate... i only got 3 hens from the eggs but 7 roos... not her fault, just the luck of the draw. well now that it comes down to selecting keepers as they get their sex feathers in, whats creeping out in them all!? copper! 3 for the roos i wasnt keeping have it, 2 of the roos i was considering keeping have it, and the last 2 may still yet copper up

it wasn't like i didnt talk to this lady and tell her how i detested the coppers and only wanted blues, it wasn't like we didnt talk with ample time to disclose any information... I'm ticked, a year wasted! not enough copper to be considered coppers, too much copper to be blues. And they are Aholes to all the other chickens.

I wish I could help you but my Blues turned Blue coppers. I am moving a Splash hen with the Blue coppers and then using a Black copper Roo to produce my BBS Copper pen. Just how it goes. I hope you find some Blues soon.

Blues are just about as rare as blacks.......most are really over melanized stock that's how your birds turned out the way you are explaining and I have a question on their eye color is it pumpkin or darker? Most blacks and blues have eyes that are too dark also.....

So far my experience has been like yours most of what I hatched was not even close to the SOP thank goodness I have hatched some that are close and it's looking like my chicks are going to turn out good enough that I now have a start....I too like the blues but I'm not trying to get just Blue I have Blue Coppers and Blue Birchens......I keep trying to hatch a good Black Copper Rooster but so far I haven't drawn the right cards though it looks like I might have one correctly colored Black Birchen cockerel. I have one that's a split and so far I'm hoping one of the Blue Birchen cockerels will turn out correct. You just have to keep working on what you want with Marans they are not an easy breed to work with since America only has a small gene pool to work with. So many people just raised them for dark eggs as there wasn't a standard. As for the personalities of the birds mine are not at the top they let my Delawares and New Hampshires boss them around...some of mine are very sweet and will just sit on my lap to be stroked others are quick to run away if they think you are planning on touching them but none of them have been meanies.
