Sadly, not really. I mean, I bet he could be, but he's rather shy. I've handled him before, but only in situations where I was the advantageous one. And I will say this - He is a heavy, hunky fella for his age!

"Sweet" is this guy. He's a Black Copper from Bev Davis lines, and the same age, but he's the sweetest cockerel I have ever known. I can pet him, pick him up, call to him, feed him by hand, even let strangers do the same. He never complains or spooks one bit. He'll climb right ino my lap if I let him.

Oh, and for those wanting to see my pick Blue Wheaten cockerel. Finally got a photo of him. He's the same age as all the other guys I've been showing, but still needs a lot of filling out and growing to do. I picked him from 3 BW Marans because of his amazing blue color and lacing, also his tail was better (even though it has some missing feathers) and his body is filling out faster than the other two. Can't wait until he grows to be a tank like his buddies!

The Blue Wheaten is going to be one fine Marans soon as he develops, he will drop down just a little in front when he does. This is really a good looking color, first good bird I have seen in this color.

flrgardengirl Thanx for the condolances...I would have been sadder if it was a roo.. that is what I was ordering for... The girl that drowned was too mousy so it would have been a cull but I still love the darkies from this line... Just hard to beat!! They were ordered by me from Donna... Perfect hatch... 4 girls and 3 boys... so now 3 and 3... another couple months before the lay.. no biggy.

First male appears to have a good start of a carnation comb. Notice the back points form a circle. The people that sale these mix breed Marans Eggs really get me hot real quick. There has to be a better way to make a little money than to sale someone inferior eggs, If you are just looking for dark egg layers these will work great.

It is all the same bird

The last pic he had no tail because of a meany rooster.

What do you mean about the mixed eggs? This guy is black copper from bev davis lines. Is there anything that makes you believe he is mixed with some other type of maran??

Look at the blade and see if there are four point in a circle there. If there are he has some Pene blood from somewhere and it doesn't make any difference where he came from or who's line.

Thanks for sharing that info! This roo is the only one I have from whatever that line is. The lady said Bev Davis but we all know how much big breeders names get thrown around. I trust the lady who sold them believed that is what they were so no harm done. He is just the sweetest bird, he is going to be with me til he dies. I just love him and he is so handsome, it's a treat to have him in the yard.

Mixing with penes- does this happen a lot with black coppers? So should Maran combs have only 5 points? I just read that on a website, is that true? Or should they just be STRAIGHT up, no round part at the back?

I'm trying to google penedesenca roos, if any of you are on dial up you know what it is like to try to google images. Shoot me!
