Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Mine do better here at a low humidity level as well. It is already humid enough here I practically add no water until lockdown. If it is winter and we are using the heater in the house though it is drier so I might add more water if I need to.

I got the camera out, and then it seems the file already had the same name as other pics, so I am not happy renaming all the pics I just took.
Have to be at SIL in an hour.... But, heeeeere's Rudy!
This is Clydes surprise baby, he's a month old.

I also think the humidity may have been a bit high in the beginning. I usually don't worry much about the humidity until I see it get down into the 30% area, then I fill my tray again..then up the humidity between 60 and 65 during lockdown. I live in Utah..pretty dry here..but like someone said, when the heater is on, makes a difference.
And, also, you just never know. I think we've all experienced late quitters..it's just too sad to see the seemingly perfectly shaped baby in the egg shell, when we really don't know just how perfect it's health was at the time of. or close to hatching. Mother Nature knows. The strong survive. So sorry you had 6 losses..but like you said, you have others to love on.

Thanks for all the comments. If I'm going to keep hatching it's obviously a good thing I've got the Brinsea. Humidity will be MUCH easier to control throughout the hatch.

It's the American machine through the one and only Canadian supplier.

Just did a big photo-shoot with all the surviving kids. Nothing like chicks to cure what ails a girl. The 11 that I do have appear to be thriving. I have MUCH to be thankful for!!!!!
