What you describe with eye color is what I have experienced ( in my little bitty experience) too. When I picked up my two yound roos they were about a month old. The one had pumpkin eyes already and the other was black as coal. I purchased him and took the risk that the eyes would chang with time. At four months, his were still black as coal.

My liitle girls were that greenish / gray color and changed to orange as they matured.

That you for letting us use you photos to carry on Don's tail lesson.

I've looked at all of my chicks eyes since hatch, and I have yet to have a black eyed bird. All that I have had, have a grey/green tint to them at birth. All of the 14 weekers have a "pumpkin" colored eye, all of the younger birds have the grey/green eye that is getting a bit of yellow to it. Pip's eyes at 9 weeks are a "goldish" color. I believe his eyes will darken with age to an orange/red color. All of these birds are of the Wade Jeane line, although the older birds are supposedly a cross of Davis/Jeane lines. That said, I've only had 10 chicks hatch! My turn is coming, I'm sure!

Pink,

This is a picture of one of my Blue Copper marans when she was 8 weeks old.

This is turtle, the adult BlueCM with the appropriate amount of coppering. I have pictures at 12 weeks and you can see everyones coppering ( little or great) by that age.

Here's a shot of 9 week old Pip I took today. What kind of tail is this?? It ain't pinched for sure! Looking from behind him, it is a V shape. He was also a little spooked in this pic, but for the most part, his feathers stand like this most of the time, although not quite so spread out.

Walt,

Can you please describe that color? Bay, like a bay colored horse brown with a reddish hue to it? Oxblood color? Who comes up with these terms, and what happened to the "pumpkin" color??

Walt could you remind me of what the date is for the proposed standard to be voted on or approved or whatever is happening ? ? ?

Feb 19-20th.

Maybe Bev has an eye pic. I don't have any here at the moment. Describing it online is tough without a picture, but it is the most common eye color in chickens. RIR's Plymouth rocks etc.
