Ok! I do get it!
Thank you very much!
You mentioned that sometimes it's hard to tell a Black from a very dark Blue. How do you tell?

Visually determining a very dark blue that appears black can sometimes be pretty tricky and hard to do, lets see if I can help you out here.

Here is a photo of my rooster Bill who was suppose to be a Black Copper........this photo is at 4 mos old if I remember correctly.

Not the best photo but here he is at around 7-8 mos., you can see that he doesn't really look true black anymore.

Here he is yesterday. He is now 1.5 yrs.
Notice his chest feathers have a very dark lacing. Black Coppers will not have lacing.

I don't know if all very dark blues show this, this has just been my experience and what I look for. Also if you have a bird that you suspect may be very dark blue, cross it with a genetically black bird (a barred rock is a black bird) and if you get blue offspring you have yourself a blue bird that appears black.

Hi Pink

I love that color but never had one as dark as him, now I am going to have to try and breed one. I think I'll do it with a solid blue, you do have some nice birds.

Hi

That is some drive!

I went to Mt. St. Helens once and experienced the snow sliding from the hills, it was quite something.

Hi

We didn't come to America until 1996 so it was after it erupted. I can understand you not wanting to go back, it must have been beautiful up there.

Bev

There will be an egg show for sure and lots of Marans people there.

Bev

Hi Bev!

Did you visit it before the eruption or after? It was something to behold when I was growing up.....we spent all winters up and summers up there. Sad day when I awoke to the world being covered in ash and the beautiful mountain that is still etched in my mind gone. I have not gone back since it blew, in my mind it will never be the same.....crazy huh?? and it is in my backyard.

I had new wheels on my Z car that the wifey didn't notice for two years.

She said...."are those new tires"? (she meant wheels) I told her those are the ones that came with the car. (they are black and the originals were silver). It all comes out even. hahaha

Walt, unfortuantely for MY hubby, I know a bit more than I wish I did...like how expensive Coker tires, speaking of tires/rims. Sigh...

Hi all! I need a little help on this: I have two big beautiful Bev Davis Blue pullets one is a solid blue and the other is coppered they are from the same hatch of blue, black, and splash eggs. My question is how to pair them up wth my roosters, I have a nice Splash and an awesome BCM, do I breed the solid blue to the Splash and the Coppered one to the BCM? Any opinion will be helpful. Thanks, Becky

I have two questions -

Bev, what are the trays you were referring to that you pick up at the dollar store for separating eggs during hatch? I'm not being able to visualize them.

Fish meal - I've hard of this, but is it a flake? A pellet? A liquid? Anyone that uses it, I'd love to know what form it comes in and hopefully a manufacturer. Thanks!

This photo was taken outside just few moments ago in full unshaded natural daylight.

ROAD TRIP TIME - - - Who wants to catch a ride with me to Pink's house? She has to sleep sometime and I am not above borrowing the hen laying those FANTASTIC eggs for a little while. I here the roo's loving is good for several weeks. We could hatch a couple dozen of eggs FOR SURE and then return the little girl . . . . .

I have been to Pinks house, and you would have a heck of a time finding it even if you knew where you were going! Just when you think you cant go anymore, you go a ways farther and climb a scary hill, and there you are! I didnt know if we were going to make it up the gravel hill and it was hot and dry, I wouldnt even attempt it in the snow!
