Oh the blue chicks are so cute, is it a blue copper? I sent Bev Davis a message to see if I could get some solid black Marans eggs. Fingers crossed waiting on Email from her. VIVI

anyone have experience with incubating with a Little Giant 9200... My friend and I have copper marans and olive eggers set (40 of them) and this is our first time incubating...normally I hatch with a broody :)... we have the automatic egg turner but dont have anything to gauge humidity yet....We rigged a tube to the water well in bottom of bator so we can fill it without opening it... anyone have any suggestions for a good hatch/ good product suggestions? should we get the forced air fan? please HELP!! :)

Cool are u working on a project as well.
I am ALWAYS working several projects

I have a Splash Cuckoo roo with one copy of the barring gene. Paired him with a reg cuckoo hen so I get 100% blue, 25% Blue Cuckoo Pullets, 25% single Blue Barred Males and 25% Blue Double Barred Males and 25% SOLID Blue. The project part is to improve color on eggs and feathered legs. Then I will just HATCH HATCH HATCH. One thing I am getting as I go forward is to PICK what you want to work on and WORK on just that. I have my USUALLY culling that I do THEN I pick the things I am going to work on this breeding season. Next season I will pick the next BIG thing on my list. Baby steps......

Most of us use the dry incubation method. You NEED a hygrometer ASAP. Calibrate it too so you know what you are really seeing. Might want to check on an incubation thread to get info on your bator. Mine is homemade so I am no help.

Just like I figured I'm not the only one that is addicted to chicken genetics. To cool, the birds you will get with this project will have nice color as well as egg color. VIVI

I need some help from the experts! This is my first time raising chickens, and I bought some FBCM's from a local breeder. We discussed 1 roo and 5 ladies, which she tried to do for me. She was pretty confident in her sexing when I picked them up @ 2 weeks old, but she did tell me that if any of the girls turn out to be boys, she would swap them out so I don't have any rowdy boys on my hands.

She told me that the best way to sex the chicks was to go by comb size and leg/foot size. The one rooster we picked out was VERY much a man! Great big comb, and big, thick feet. The rest pretty much looked the same.

Until recently! A couple of the girls have much bigger combs than the others. Kind of makes me wonder if they're really girls? I took some pictures in hopes that someone would have some insight!

This is our roo, General Tso. We have known since day one that he's a he, because we wanted one.

Notice the three chicks behind him - the ones on the left and right obviously look different - their combs are much smaller with less color. Can't see the one in the middle too well from the angle. But this is a good comparison shot of our little man compared to our ladies.

(Don't mind the poop all over the EcoGlow - they like to use that thing as a potty!)

Here is one of the suspected boys next to one of the girls. They are both *supposed* to be girls, but you can see the big difference in comb size and shape.

These three are supposed to be girls. The two on the right are the ones I am suspicious of. The one in front is about a week younger than the rest. There's a girlie in there to compare.

Do these look like boys to you? Or is this normal development for girls, too? I'm hoping that some more experienced eyes can help!
