I love the little girl crow! It seems they all start at their own time. Little Gerard is already "crowing" but it sounds more like a song that changes daily. Couldn't be cuter!

LeMerde does mean what you think it means. To avoid vulgarity, let's translate to a more appropriate name: The Poop. When they were chicks, he was the only one I couldn't think of a name for, until his little vent pasted up. Since our BCM's have all French names, and we had such a fun half-hour getting the poop off of his fuzz, we found it necessary to name him LeMerde. We didn't want to forget how comedic our first un-pasting went.

We had to convince our otherwise sourpuss French teacher to teach us some "real words". The heck with the biblioteque!

Wheaton bred to wheaton equals wheaton... No matter whether it is an ordered bird or a "sport". Genetically it comes out Wheaten. Do not breed back to your BC's as that is a muddle already... It shows an error in breeding in the line somewhere... The wade line was imported with the error in place... This is why the french pay so much attention to the hackle color as it speaks of the wheaton genetics contained in the bird.

Well, I chased the little gal around the farm and got a few pics - here's my Wheaten/Sport or whatever she is - that hatched from my older BCM flock (parent stock):

Here's the roo in question that I've removed from breeder pens - note the partial brown wing triangle, white fluff, light legs (all things I've learned about here on BYC):

He could be responsible for lots of the wheaten/sports in the Jeane line since he's one of the originals (and, please let's not get into where he did or did not come from) - let's just say he was in the parent stock/flock I bought. The flock from which hundreds and hundreds of chicks had already been sold before I bought them.

He has a cinnamon wing triangle and is a beautiful wheaton Rooster.. (sneaky isn't he)

Thanks for the nice picture.

He has the light legs and the telltail white beak... The lighter gold hackles... This is the point I was making... Gorgeous Bird....also the lighter undercoating in the feathers.

Good selection of books in the background. . .She is a cute little one. I don't think the BCM should have white feathering down the legs. I am pretty sure that my girls had black leg feathering from the very beginning. . . That was a long time ago - - -

Will someone with some baby chicks RIGHT NOW confirm if it is ok or not for them to have white feathering on the legs when young ? ?? ?

Mine that have feathers on their legs have dark feathers fromthe get go................

Well Ruth, she's a pretty little thing. Wonder what the chicks would look like if you bred her back to her Dad? Looks like she has a start on the right coloring, just kind of mottled and not enough in the right places.
