I assure you even though these weights are what are proposed there are many folks out there (myself included) that have birds much bigger than this. In fact one of my roosters weighed in at 12.5 lbs and his dtr my biggest Marans pullet at 10 mos is weighing in at almost 8 lbs.I kid you not...she is a chunker. I personally like them on the larger side of things. I like picking them up and feeling some hefty-ness there.
Are your girls snooping around in the nest box yet?
Well, the weather man was sure wrong yesterday! Not that I minded missing a few tornados
. One clap of thunder, and not even a drop of rain, just wind. Supposed to be nice today, with a chance of storms. Sure could use the rain, just don't need the drama of the severe stuff!
Yes, my girls don't look heavy either, but when I picked them all up the other day, I was very surprised by their chunkiness and weight! I like them bigger too!

No, the girls are not snooping around in the nest box.. Only one has even a little color in her comb and wattles. I am not really going to start 'begging' for eggs until they are much older. LOL But they have started letting me touch them...big big step! LOL They have been very flighty , acting like they were going into the pot everytime they even saw me--the breeder didn't handle them much and they were 12 weeks old when I got them.. They have doubled or tripled in size since they came here... I am hoping they will lay really dark eggs and maybe find a nice roo--from a different breeder --for them...

Glad to hear that all is well Debbi! We have plenty of rain happening right now, if you would like I would be happy to ask it to move on over for ya!

I too am hoping they will lay very nice dark eggs for you!
Here are some Marans eggs that the girls give me. Some of these eggs are from the project pen and others are from the breeding pen.
Really I just wanted to share my pretty green depression glass fruit bowl that I found in the bottom of a box marked free at a yard sale.
I think that if one of these Marans eggs in the 'bator doesn't do something pretty soon I might just scream. We're rocking and peeping but that's just not enough!
