I have only got two French Wheatens at the moment. Used to have Blues and Clays but I am considering getting some BCM's.

Pullet eggs. The darkest is my first BCM egg from my Wynette pullets I hatched the end of last summer. Very happy.

Where do you get an official Maran's egg color chart AND the characteristics to keep when hatching out chicks?

and where is the best place to buy Maran's, chicks or eggs is fine, that are breed true to a standard?

I have a BCM rooster (that I got off craigslist):


and a BCM x Barred Rock hen, which lays a nice dark egg.


I would like to get more BCMs to add to my flock.

I have another question! I am on day 7 incubating and have a few eggs that appear "clear" or less dark than the others inside. I noticed little spots on the outside of the shells this morning, like something had leaked out and hardened. Does that mean they are done? It's only on the eggs that I candled a couple days ago and noted were questionable. Thanks!

Personally I remove all "leakers" from the incubator. They are dead and can explode. Be careful when removing them just in case of that exact reason. Sure makes a mess in the incubator if it happens.

I got my egg chart when I joined the MCCUSA. It's a $10 annual membership fee. They send you a info packet and included is the color chart. You also have more access on their website forums as a member. As far as were to buy. Best advice I can give is just look around and talk to people. They are lots of breeders here on this thread who will sell eggs and some even sell chicks. I have found local listings for Marans on craigslist also. Have never bought any but they are there sometimes, guess you just have to be careful there.

Thank you for posting. I just hatched some BCM X BR chicks, love the sexlinking! Is the center egg from that cross? Very nice.

Ihilani coffee - yes the middle is from my BCM x BR. Shes such a beautiful bird and her eggs have all been around 2.25 oz, bigger than the eggs from my 15 pullets (black stars, buff, EE) that were hatched 2 months earlier.

I paid $20 for a dz BCMFrench standard from a flock that originated fro, Bev Davis line. Central Tx are.

Oh, and those eggs go into lockdown tomorrow. So excited! Along w some BCM/Barred mix, BCM/Buff Orp mix, and BCM/RIR mix. Also a couple EE/GLW and EE/Silver Ameracauna mix. First hatch ever so I'm super nervous!
