That would be a ROO for sure.

I am debating on keeping this boy awhile longer or selling him to the roo man. I do have a lot of babies so will have more to choose from, BUT no more of this bloodline except his sister who is turning out pretty nice except for not having a lot of copper. (neither did their mother) Hatched 11/18/13
I don't really like the size of his comb and wattles but that will probably be an issue here for a long time, especially with our summer heat.He has molted out his white wing tips and a couple of white feathers on his feet, so no white anywhere. No copper on the breast. Has nice leg and toe feathering but no stubs. The major reason I am hesitating on keeping him until the other babies (from very different blood lines) grow out and I can compare them somewhat is his left eye.
His right eye is pretty and clear, but the left one has this smudge under the pupil. Do you think he may out grow this or at this age he will keep it? would this be a deal breaker for you? How likely his offspring will carry it?

Yes, it is like he has a splotch of dark pigment in the iris, although if you didn't look closely you might think it was part of the pupil. I just wasn't sure if this was a defect or a DQ and wanted to be sure. Well then he'll get a reprieve for a bit.His pupil looks to be intact, nice and round. That was the first thing I wondered about, since the SOP, under DQs, says "irregular pupil indicating leucosis". It looks to me like he has irregular pigment. Eyes not matching in color is considered a defect. I don't know how a judge would view that, if the other eye is the same bay color and this eye has some extra darker pigment. I would like to hear what other people have to say. I am not an expert by any means, but if he is otherwise a nice male, I don't think I would cull him just for that. He is young yet, but I like his tail angle at this age. So many of them get squirrel tail. My main cock's tail angle is now too high and it wasn't when he was younger. If I had one with a lower tail angle, he would be useful. Let me know if you decide not to keep him.
The issue regarding keeping him would be whether or not that discoloration is genetic, correct? If he doesn't pass that to offspring, it wouldn't matter unless you were going to show him, right?Yes, it is like he has a splotch of dark pigment in the iris, although if you didn't look closely you might think it was part of the pupil. The Marans don't have an overabundance of sickles. Also if someone could reply about his tail... shouldn't it be fuller? (I'm just getting started with BCMs and learning what is good and what isn't)... Thanks!!
yes, but I am trying to build up a flock of SOP birds and will be showing some over the winter. However the main issue I wanted to know is if this would carry on too much in future generations. One once in awhile wouldn't be bad, but would hate to find out down the road it's like side sprigs and multiplys! The issue regarding keeping him would be whether or not that discoloration is genetic, correct? yes and they seem to be the last feathers to grow in, too. Also Marans aren't supposed to have great big tails like Welsummers and some other breeds. The Marans don't have an overabundance of sickles.
