Oh great, another recessive to worry about...Yellow skin is recessive and takes 2 copies to express Marans shouldn't have yellow skin it is not a sex link trait so the fact that they are roos is just dumb luck.

Whew, thanks! I am sure they are both hens (I have one that is older) but the older one is going through a darker feathering stage and along with that it concerned me. She does have no comb to speak of so I am hoping it's just darker feathers than normal (I did a search and someone else had that happen, too)Yellow skin is recessive and takes 2 copies to express Marans shouldn't have yellow skin it is not a sex link trait so the fact that they are roos is just dumb luck.

I'm very think skinned so don't worry about me taking offense. I am new to Marans and just want to know if these boys have any sort of potential in a breeding program.
I would guess that your BCM Cock carries the recessive white or wheaten gene and one or more of the pullets.Mystery chick!
The eggs I set were from the following two matings:
1.
Blue-Tail Buff Marans roo
Cuckoo Marans hen
2.
Trio of Black Copper Marans
I've been hatching from those two matings for months, and if anyone was split for white, it would have had to have showed up before now.
So where did this white chick come from?![]()

Ok everyone, it's the pullet or cockerel game lol. I need help with my Luna. She (hopefully) had only recently developed a comb and wattles and until about a week ago I had no doubt that she was a pullet but now I'm second guessing myself. She's a big girl. A little help from the experts is in order. She's 8 weeks old and her very obvious sister had almost no comb still but her two brothers have bigger and redder combs than her. She has no copper coloring on her at all but is about as big as her one brother. Definitely a tricky one.

Luna is the one on the left. Her brother, Blue is in the right and her brother Joel is in the background.

Here's a side picture of her. Blue and Joel are always facing of to each other, hackles raised and pecking but Luna never does. So please tell me your opinions. Pullet or Cockerel?
