Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I will try to get better pictures at feeding time. They are super hard to take a good picture of. Especially her, we named her sweetie because she comes to us and flies onto our shoulders every time we let them out of the brooder. So rather than being in a range that is good to take a picture she is right on is!

Rumpless mutation looks like the entire backend just suddenly drops off, which is not what I'm seeing on this bird, especially on the first photo.  She may just take a while to grow in a tail.  A photo directly from the side standing in a normal position would be helpful...the third photo is at an angle that makes it look *almost* rumpless, but hard to say.

Had a chick like this, not a marans. Yes, the tail came in, not a long tail, on a hen. Very pretty though. :)

What do you think about my Marans? I got him thinking he was a Black Copper, but later found he is a Wheaton.

His father is the icon I am using. He had white in his tail feathers.

I'm in Northern California and would like to replenish my chickens with Wheaten Marans.  I had quite a few at one time, but over the years my flock has shrunk.  I'm not a breeder or a shower -- just someone that loves the look of the birds.  They have done well where I live and egg production is perfect for my family's needs.

Last year I spent quite a bit on hatching eggs, but had very little success with them.  I've since learned they can be harder than average to incubate.

What I would like to do is find some chicks or pullets, but don't know of anyone in a 200 mile radius that has any.

Is there anyone here that is in Northern California that has any?  I don't need show quality by any stretch!  Just would like to see the Wheatens puttering around my yard again.

Thanks you in advance for any help you can offer!!

There is a guy in Loomis that has wheatens. 2 of my chicks ended up to be what I presume are splash wheatens.

I'm hoping you can help me out, and I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post, if it is just let me know where to post it.

I have been trying for over a year to get a Marans for my flock! Had a black copper that turned out to be a rooster, a cuckoo that disappeared (I think a hawk!), and April 19 I got a blue and I'm reasonably sure this one as well is a rooster. :( I have attached pictures, please let me know what you think. I believe Ivy is between 5-7 weeks. The other question I have is about the eyes. They look kind of "droopy" to me, is this normal? Thanks for any help you can provide.
