Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks!
I managed to take some pix. As soon as my cell phone's dead battery recharges, I'll post pix of the interior and exterior of the coop and run. And my side yard. 'Fraid my silly dog is in a few pix, sorry. lol

I won't be able to get pix of my rooster until I repair the coop and run, and bring him home. But, I did settle on a name for the roo. (Or is he a cockerel? What is the difference between rooster and cockerel, anyway?) My new boy's name is DeGaulle. He kinda looks a bit like Charles De Gaulle in profile. ;-) I gave my new boy a strong name that I hope he lives up to.
Here are pix of the exterior of the coop and run.
I am standing (taking the pix from) the rear corner of my house.

Some

Some interior pix of my coop.
I'm not even sure what I'm looking at, in there.
I know what the nesting boxes are. But what is this segregated area? For supplies? Can I turn it into a place for my rooster, instead?

Sorry. I was delayed by a delivery of gorgeous hand-made blue bird houses… sold to me for less than I could buy the makings of them to do it myself. (y) He even brought me few other freebies he makes - craft her and wine holders, chickadee house, and another tinier bird house (I forgot what bird, it's marked… have to look later). Then we got to talking, I broke out the Pabst Blue Ribbon… well, it was 3:00 here in NJ, but it was 5:00 somewhere. lol Utah! It was 5:00 in Utah. lol :p Looks like hubby & i might've made a new friend who lives nearby. :)

More interior pix of my chicken coop.

Here are pix looking from the rear corner of the house across the side yard to the coop (and from the same corner out back, up the hill the house was built into).

That last (rearmost) back window (furthest to the right in this and the next photo below) is one of my bedroom windows, the other overlooking the back patio.
So I can easily see the chicken coop at night. Or from the laundry room, the bathroom, and the living room (the window consecutively to the left).

Beroom window, and 'round the corner to the back patio, woodshed, and the hill that is terraced and our property. Not really a back yard, to speak of...
That's Rufus (hubby's dog), who refuses to step out of the picture. sigh

I want to put a gate at this corner to fence Rufus OUT of the side yard, where I want the chickens to be safe.
He's gentle with our cats and our astern Box turtle. He was gentle with an African white ring-necked crow and a humongous raven and an almost-as-big macaw whom we once fostered along with their human owners (a couple) for a year. But, I don't know how he'll react to chickens, especially DeGaulle (or any rooster), so - better safe than sorry, eh?

The first level terrace up from the patio. The woodshed is to the left, just out of range of this picture.

The same level as the pic above, only over (to the right) further… closer to the chicken coop, but above/behind it.

The furthest edge of our property, first terrace, and we obviously do't use that for Rufus. It was left by the previous tenants.

I want to gate here so the chickens can't go down the hill or the stairs. I'm going to fence in at the top of the hill, too.

The hill from the side yard down to the road.

My pear tree.
Even with the huge male black bear that lives behind the house (up in the tree line) stealing all of my pears on the lower half of that tree, I still got about 4 bushels full of very sweet & tasty pears at the end of October.

The side yard.

nice, but what does all that have to do with marans?

In reply to my questions about using/repairing/adapting what I already had here (from before I moved in) for the black copper marans I just bought and am buying, someone said that pictures would help. I'm new to chickens in general, not just to this breed.

In my original post to this thread, I had asked several questions about the bcm rooster I bought and properly caring for and housing him. A reply was that pix of the existing coop, run & yard would help.

I'm sorry if I should have put the pix elsewhere, or not at all. I will remove them if I ought to. :)

No don't remove. I think the question was just because some of us forgot the context. Kern

Don't be offended. It's much worse on the other marans thread when they tell you to eat your chickens
