Hi

Firstly I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome back.

Now for the egg question: The black copper does lay the darkest egg but I have had eggs from the black, birchen, copper blue and wheaten that come very close. The only wheaten genes I have in my birds are in the wheatens, salmons, columbians and black tailed buff. The black coppers are from dominant genes and the others are recessive.

The more questions that are asked the better, it's this way we will all learn, including me! I don't know a whole lot but have books and other people that can help us all learn.

GREAT TIP ! I noticed today that the babies I put in there from last nights hatchings were getting stepped on a little from the ones that had hatched yesterday.

The ones that hatch today, I will make sure I put in a gaurded area from the older ones.

Okay Bev... Let me narrow the question to you... do you find that the ones that "come close" carry both a ressive and a dominant gene??? That is what I mean by "gene stacking"... You are the BEST PERSON to answer this as you have a WEALTH of experience.. I don't know that this question has EVER been answered... It seems to be an unknown... OBTW.... WELCOME BACK!!!! Love to see you here!!!! You make the world a better place....

I think you did answer it really but I wonder if the super crazy dark ones (that look like mutts) carry both the recessive and dominant genes and that is linked to the egg color????? Tell me what you think...
