So I have a question about black coppers. I have five three month olds. I am trying to figure out the sex. My first black copper I could tell were roos right put of the egg considering their huge combs. All the chicks look similar with two having very slight larger combs. I thought these two would be roos, but now I am not so sure. When does the copper start showing on the wing and back?
All these chicks have definite copper rings around their necks. I need to post pics, but I am having a difficult time getting shots that you can tell much about the bird. They move so fast. Hopefully someone can help me. I just feel I should be able to tell by now. I had a real hard time sexing my Houdans and they both turned out to be boys. It is hard to wait.
Arrrgggg!!! My sweet demure little splash baby that I was sure was a pullet now has a big bright red comb starting, it looks like a crown lol. Darn darn darn...I wanted a splash girl waaaaa. Okay done whining now

It would be hard to tell you for certain without pics. I would think by three months the males should start showing at least a little copper on their saddle feathers and wing. However some birds are a little slower to show color than others. I think it might be the difference in which lines they come from. I have been fooled by pullets with big feet and combs too. Some males that are colored improperly may not ever get the hackle coloring etc. so pics would be your best bet to get a more accurate answer lol.

how old is the splash in question? I thought mine were turning into boys too, but then their combs stopped growing. they do seem to look more pink against their light feathers. Do you have pictures?
