I don't think so, like Jan said, it's just what the French call them. I know I had a hard time trying to find "Black Copper" when I first started checking out the sites, they all said "Brown Red". Where the heck is the brown??

I don't believe anybody asked for an APA-based review of the bird in question. Is this just a free service you offer, without request or interest from anybody else, for any chicken's photo?

I thought Don's statement was pretty neutral. I'm not sure where you are coming from in your response.

I have posted in the past using the term Brown Red as I quoted the french site....I just assumed everyone understood that it meant black copper here... I is like tomato or tomato.. LOL Next time I will write it in French as the translation was lost just as much...LOL

Marans cuivre noir: This is the term used on the French website...It is Black Copper... there ya go folks..

marron rouge: This is not a term you see in the French website describing the birds...it means Brown Red...

I am a simpleton..this makes sense to me...

Who knows why it says brown red on the french translated website.. bad translator..I just don't know...

It's just that there's always a gratuitous and unsolicited "APA this, APA that..." or "this bird does not meet the proposed APA standard because..." or "the French standard means nothing" or "egg color means nothing".

Even visually, the Marans BC color is quite different than the brown red I see in OEG and Modern games. The hackle color is different and the black is a different in the Marans. In the Marans the hackle color actually looks like copper. It is very difficult to show color on computers as our monitors are calibrated differently. There are programs that are used to calibrate monitors so that they get CLOSE to the actual colors. So allow some leeway when you are looking at chicken colors on a site.

Darth - that's what this entire thread is about. If you don't like what you are reading, move on. There are plenty of other threads on BYC that you may be interested in.
