SO GLAD to see that I am not the only one with a Naughty little girl who likes to fly where she doesn't belong. The last time my marans got out, she ate all my freshly planted seedlings

She is beautiful. I know how those naughty ones are. I finally put some chicken wire over the corner of my run where the top didn't quite meet the side all the way and 3 of them would get out all the time. They have been getting out since March lol. It took a close call about 2 weeks ago for me to do it though because I had been procrastinating it. One day the roos wouldn't shut up and I went out there and there was this huge bald eagle sitting on a pine limb right over thier run staring down at them. All the chickens, ducks, and guineas were all inside thier coops (which they never are during the day and the guineas were really going psycho on the other side of the yard). At first I thought it was a huge owl, it was way up there and I didn't have my contacts in (that's how blind I am lol). Anyhow, I grabbed the chickenwire and twisty ties and fixed that top real quick lol. That eagle sat there a good hour before deciding to fly off.

Hey everybody, I just ordered a Black Copper Marans from Meyers Hatchery along with an Ameraucana, a Salmon Faverolle and a Rhode Island Red. I am so excited, they will be arriving in early March! Ohhhh... I am just drooling over those brown eggs!

Congrats. I know it is hard to find sexed chicks! Let us know how the egg color is and post some pics of your cute little fuzzy butts when you get them. Have you started building your coop yet?

Good morning all!

Freezing temps, snow, and high winds here this morning! Think I'll let the chooks sleep in a bit to see if the snow quits and the wind calms down. I know that must sound sissy to folks in the north!

We were supposed to get an inch of snow, but with all the wind, that inch turned into 8" and planted itself on my front porch. The dogs are lovin' it anyway!

Yes, I am a sissy. Just heard it is -32 up in International Falls!!!

Think I'll pass on that...

Ummmmmm.....that's c-c-c-c-c-cold!!!!!! Just wet and very windy here. Surprised we didn't loose power of night or yet this morning. Your birdies are doing well I assume? Intergration is still successful?

btw: I have another pip, found it this morning around 3am. So hopefully, #3 will be here sometime today. Little Roy Orbison (Orby for short) and Splash Jordan are doing great, but noisey, OMGosh..they are noisey, but only until they are picked up. I knew I shouldn't have started off by holding little Orby all night that first night.

Good on the one more chick! So far, the integration is going ok. Hope everyone is slow and calm in the coop this morning though. Will find out here shortly. The big girls seem more apt to bully when they get outside in the run.
