Fabulous explanation! I have been reading and reading and reading and reading about chicken genetics and heredity, quantative and qualitive, the chicken genome and mapping, basic mutations & all the rest of the blah blah blah blah and can get it through my head and understand the majority of it.........but I can never spit it out where it is as easily understood as you do. I so look forward to reading and absorbing your input Mr. R. Thank you!

Here is a pic of the eggs I got this past week. The top row is from my first pullet to lay. They are getting darker!!

The ones on the bottom row with the "bull eyes" are from the last pullet to start laying. Hope her ink jets get kicking in and the whole egg turns that nice dark color! The two on the right bottom are finally from the pullet that had been laying rubber eggs. I started mixing in some oyster shell in with the food, and voila, good eggs. They all have access to oyster shell in a seperate dish, but I guess she wan't getting it. Hers have a matte, rough textured shell. Hope they get darker too! These were taken inside, in natural light by the window, no flash. This pic is very true to color!

Thanks! I'm proud of my girls

It's nice to see a distinct difference in their eggs. Two of them seem to prefer the same nest box, yet I can look in and tell who layed what. Ruby with tiny speckles = Pretty. Bull's eyes and speckles = Beaut. Rough, matte finish = Precious. The size seems to be getting bigger too. I'm tickled
