Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks Jan! Only 17 days till he leaves Iraq, then they have to lay over in another country for a week or more while they get re-adjusted to life. He said either Germany or Ireland, sure hope it's Ireland! Then they fly him into his base in Kansas to report for duty there, THEN he gets to go on a quick leave to come home to see his Mama.

I'll rest easier when I know he's out of Iraq, but not totally till he's standing in front of me

Debbie - you & yours are in my thoughts & prayers.

Sewandgrow - yes, typically laying capability is passed down from momma to babies.

Debbie prayers sent to you and Sean for a safe return and I like others want to thank him and those who are serving with him .It is a great sacrifice they and their families are making for all of us and our rights and freedoms God Bless and Keep All

Hugs to you!

BTW, it's been ugly/gray/yucky here. When the sun comes out, I'll get picks of the new BCM girl. I didn't know they had feathered legs! Sooo cute, just so cute!

Thanks aceschix and Raven! That means a lot. People these days do show a lot of appreciation for what the soldiers do, and they are always bombarded in the airports with well-wishers. It sure does my heart good to know that, especially since I saw how people treated some of my friends returning from Viet Nam.

The base in Germany is good, though. My brother lives in Germany (retired military--was stationed there, loved it, and stayed after he got out). The only bad thing about taking soldiers out of Iraq and putting them in Germany is that it's bloody cold in Germany right now. I know this because my brother's been commenting on the snow for the past week on his Facebook page. Hehehe.

I agree and thanks for pointing that out. I know that true solid blue roos are pretty rare. I think Bev said that she has a nice prospect growing out and she is excited to see how he will mature.
I have never had a blue male either, every male I have grown out has always shown some form of copper, be it too dark, too light, not enough, too much or whatever. argh Right?

I think we should ask Bev how she got to this solid blue boy.

Okay now I'm confused lol. Are you guys talking about solid blue marans roos coming from BBS matings, or solid blue marans roos coming from Bl copper matings, or both?

The reason I am wanting to know is because I have two blue roos from BBS mating that have absolutely no coppering showing yet.
This roo in the front of this photo (below and yes he is as EVIL as he looks lol) has no type of coppering whatsoever and very crisp blue. This pic is from about 2 1/2 mos ago. He is twice as big now lol. There is another one with no coppering at all either but he doesn't have as nice of lacing.
I have a few other blues but one has some dirty looking streaking...doesn't really look like coppering though. He is the one that is so light he is almost splash and almost looks sterling greyish. The other one I have, is visually blue but his momma was blue and his father was light bl copper. He is totally blue and about 8 mos old. I know he probably has a hidden copper gene so not using him with my BBS to get pure blues.

Debbi bless you and your son. I hope everything goes okay and he is back home safe and soon!

For whatever it is worth... my experience shows that it takes two crossings to achieve Copper in the hackles.
