Hello everyone! I am one of those who don't own any Marans but am looking for one. I was hoping to find anyone who has a pullet or hen available in or around NE Oklahoma. I will buy chicks but would feel more comfortable if they are a little over 2 weeks so I don't have such a fear of screwing up and killing them. If not in that location then perhaps meet in the middle which would be around the area. I am about an hour away from Tulsa... I might consider driving farther if she is show quality for my soon to be 4-H chicken showing daughter and perhaps son (if hes interested in what big sis is doing). Also wanting to add that dark egg to my basket as well as adding a new feathered friend to our flock. Any info is greatly appreciated!

The Marans Chicken Club USA National Meet will be in Shawnee, OK December 14th. and I know there will be birds for sale there.

I was told this was a golden cuckoo Marans and since it was so light I assumed it was a cockerel. It looks more like a pullet to me though. It is about 12 weeks. What do you think it is? Pullet/roo? Maybe some kind of cross wheaten and cuckoo?

This appears to be a Young male and with the white wing feather it has a DQ.

I am down to the last 4 Blue Copper Marans cockerels from this year and of course none of them is perfect. So I am deciding which traits are the lesser of evils. I will try to take updated photos, but what is harder to deal with? Eye color, white in wing, white in ear lobe? One of them has the best color eyes but has 2 wing feathers with some white and a bit of white in his ear lobes. Not much, but it is there. The oldest one I plan to keep. He is a nice size, no white wing or tail feathers, eyes could be a bit lighter, but not bad.
Of the two youngest, both the same age, one is bigger than the other but is much more nervous. He does not seem to get used to me walking by his cage, whereas the other one is smaller but has a calmer attitude. Neither of those has any white in wing or tail but eyes are still a bit dark. To be honest, I am having a bit of trouble knowing exactly what "bay" is. Does anybody have a photo of the perfect Marans "bay" eye?

Im sure at only 12 Weeks the white feather will molt out. The bird probably hasnt even finished its last juv molt.

And it looks to me that its a Golden Cuckoo Pullet. But to be honest Im a new to anything Cuckoo.
