She is my only marans hen, and her eggs were darker in the beginning, but I've recently gotten a few that are much lighter with dark speckles. Does that have any significance?

That is normal for Marans.
After she takes a break from laying for a while, her eggs will start out dark again and lighten up again as the cycle progresses.

Mine are Lavender Copper Marans. They are lacking good copper color.... along with lots of other things LOL. PROJECT is the key word.


Pardon the mud.... one day I will have a pen that will not get muddy every rain.

Not a close up, but here are my new BCMs on their first day outside. I just finished their new pen, so they are still using the small waterer and feeder until I get the nipples and PVC set up

Love that color! After 6+inches of snow I know mud.

Just glad my birds are out on pasture and I don't have to worry about it!

Not only are people making new colors when the established varieties in the SOP are so in need of work still, but they don't know enough about the breed to even spell it right.

I have 5 Lavender Marans. They were sold to me as project birds. I'm not complaining though. They are about 5 or 6 weeks old. I will be keeping the girls and re homing the boys. Not sure who is who yet. I have 1 that has no tail. LOL It's kinda funny looking.
