Rotisserie? That's a rooster's nameJust an update. Rotisserie one of my cuckoos layed her second egg yesterday morning and it is much darker than the first. I was surprised because everyone I talked to said they wouldn't get darker but it definitely is! Now just waiting to see what her sister miss yellow feet will pop out for her second egg.
I guess that is a little less gender specific than SmokeyDidn't know rotisserie was gender specific. Thought it was just a type of chicken like fried and nuggetsthank you I was surprised and impressed with her.
I'll definatley let you know how Dixie makes it through the winter. Most of my other ones (actually all of them) are hefty, fuller breeds like marans. I have 4 marans, 2 salmon faverolles, and a really big rooster who Dixie ALWAYS has to sleep next too, so hopefully they will help her stay warm. Daisy is Dixie's side kick. They are always together. Dixie is at the top of the pecking order so when treats are introduced she gets first pick, but she always lets her bestie Daisy get the good stuff too. It's really cute watching them interact. I'm also planning on setting up a "winter roost" specifically just for the winter that used 2 by 4s so that when they are sleeping, their bodies cover their toes to prevent frostbite (although most of my girls have feathered feet). Their roost right now is made out of 1 by 2s so they can wrap their toes around it like they would do in the wild (that's what they prefer, but in the winter they'll have to deal without that to stay warm).However odd the situation, Daisy is absolutely gorgeous, so I completely don't blame you for not wanting to trade her back. All I can figure is that she was meant to have a good home with you. After all, they do have a way of becoming a part of our lives, don't they?
Dixie Chick is so stunningly beautiful!If you don't mind, could you please let me know how she made it through the winter? I'm seriously considering purchasing a BA in the next order, but I will drop the idea if they truly are an anti-cold weather breed. Blue chickens add something special to your flock, which is why I had to have a couple to complete our "color collection" (an Olive Egger and a Blue Ameraucana).

So, HOW do i know the details of how my hen, Charlotte, will act when she is ready to lay?
She is 4 months old and seems 'bossy' towards our other hens.
How fast should they grow?
At our local feed store they have austrolopes and RI reds which they say are 4 months old and they are way bigger than any of my 4 month olds.
Being new to having ANY chickens, what shall i expect when they DO lay?
HELP! PLEASE.

Once my cuckoos got mature they became the largest hens I have. They rival some roos for size.
