No not premolt on my Rooster.. The red is here to stay.. The picture with the down is not my bird... Can you answer the question about the down... That is what I am looking at snowbird What does that indicate?
Some years ago I was in France at a Marans chicken show and the then President Serge Deprez showed Alan Heeks (Sec. for English Marans Club) and myself the difference between a black copper and wheaten male. He told us that some breeders in France did not know the difference between the two and had mixed them. At that time the standard was for black breasts. Unfortunately Serge passed away and new people became officers of the French Marans Club and the standard changed. It was then written to accommodate the mix. A lot of our birds in America are also mixed in the same way the French birds are. We have tried to write the standard to be as close to the French standard as we possibly could but it will be up to the APA to decide about the color of the breast.

Hey, I am happy to hear your opinion! It wasn't just for Bev it is for everyone. So Don, can you help me understand how this happened? What caused this? And no, I don't like it. I like almost everything else about him but I cannot breed a roo that will pass this along.
Hey Pink! Pip is doing great! This place has been a mad house the last couple of days. Leave it to you to smell "blue" in her!
She just may be, but I have yet to see a blue in person, so hard for me to say. She looks to me to be black on the top half and bluer on the bottom.
I'd be tickled if she was, although what I had bought was supposedly Black Copper. The storm from yesterday really aggravated the humidity and temps here. Today, it is 101 with 78% humidity. The guys finished putting the top fencing on the run, and had to quit, it was miserable. Tomorrow, there will only be 2 of them here, but I think we can get it finished. The little Amish man is going to paint the trim on the top of the coop from the roof, better him than me! They are doing such a fine job, I couldn't be happier. My old female Shepherd came in heat this week, so mega male is driving us all crazy! Lots of switchy-changy to get one out, fed, and out again, then on to the next one while the first goes back in the crate! Little Pip was making a lot of noise yesterday, so I went out to see what's up. There she was, on the bear's head, pecking the tar out of his nose!
Giving that bear the what-for, so funny. The new bator arrived yesterday, and OMG! You'd think at that price THEY could put it together, but noooo. Should have it figured out by today if I hold out. Already been to town once this morning, and now getting ready to go back, hopefully for the last time, to pick up more staples for the fence. They said three more boxes, think I'll buy 6! Got some tester eggs coming for the new bator, maybe next week. Good thing I have another building to turn into a coop! Come winter, I will need it! Life is good, if you don't weaken!
Here's some pics of Pip (what I've been calling her too!), let me know what you think.
