I would be inclined to give them a little time to grow and then see what the color is and the male should feather slowly.

I would second that. My current roo had hardly any color for the first few months. But once the hackle, wing bar, and saddle feathers started coming in he colored up quite a bit. I'm very happy with his color now!

I am very new to the maran thing, but I know a lot of people strive for the olive egger. I have a small flock of many different breeds but mostly Ameraucanas(now some EEers) and I just had a mama hatch out 6 new babies and one is a Black copper Maran. My question is: If my little chick ends up being a roo(as my luck runs) can I keep him and breed him with my true Ameraucana hens and get olive eggers or can you only get olive eggers from Ameraucana roo to BCM hen?

Well thanks Wynette, that's exciting. I have room for another rooster in my flock so I guess I will keep this little chickie no matter what then:) Very excited! They are very pretty roosters too:)

cracked egg here is my all black guy standing with my wellie roo.He is a month older and bigger now but we really like him.He has lots of beetle green shine to his feathers! He has/is going thru small molt right now???
