They still look pretty young, my advice is to give both of them more time to mature, they can change alot and also some can take several months to show their true colors.

Cracked egg - it's kind of hard to tell from the pics of exactly what we're looking at. They really need to be focused and a bit closer if possible, and we need to be able to see their faces.

On the pullet, she appears to have good coloring, at least in my opinion. Some on here prefer more copper in the hackles, but I like the amount your girl has, personally. I also like the color of the coppering - nice & dark.

ETA: Pinkchick is right - give them some more time.

Wynette, Since it has cooled down today I am working on the light box, will paint tomorrow.

Yesterday I found another fault with my BC Marans, I was checking my two year old male birds and found one with soft feathering between the toes on the web, I looked at some of the young that I could get close enough to see their feet and also found one of the young males that has the same thing on the web. In the past two year I have hatched over 1000 chicks and never seen this before. I will save them for pictures.

I also found my first BC with twisted wing feathers, will save this one also for pictures. I need to get these pictures taken and to April before the show season start.

Great - can't wait to see it, Don! Twisted wing feathers - that's interesting! I hatched one awhile back that had feathers on the webbing between the outside toe and the middle toe, also. Luckily, she ended up being a pullet, so she's in my layer pen.

Don,

Do you know what would cause either of those faults to show up?

It is all genetics and will explain what I do when Ipost pictures in a couple of days. With the wing I have had the problem with my Brahma bantams in the past and it is not as scary as some have you think.

Well The big day has come my eggs arriver in the mail.

I was so excited that they showed up and in good time to. It only took 5 days thats not bad if you think they had to come from what we in Alaska call the lower 48s. My dad saw the mail man deliver the eggs to the box out front. Though why he did not come to the door when he had a box marked all over the place "hatching eggs fragile" is odd.

Though no harm there cause i have been watching that mail box like a hawk. The only reason my dad saw the mail man and i did not was because he was set to watch the box why i fead my kids lol. I took the box in side and was a little sad when i could smell bad eggs coming from the box. when i opened the box there was lots of shreded paper on top of the egg carton that was on its side in the box with very little on the bottom. Each egg in the carton was wrapped in a paper towel. I opened each wrapped egg hoping there was some that would be ok. I payed for 12 eggs and they sent 6 extra in case of a egg getting broken on the way. so out of 18 eggs 9 where undamaged. I placed them in my incubator after putting little x's and o's on each side so i can tell when I am turning them. I have had my incubator set up for days now

so it was all nice and ready for them. So here is hopping that I have an amazing hatch rate and all 9 eggs hatch:fl. Oh and that I get at least one rooster and one hen so if nothing els I can hatch more if the hatch rate sucks.
