I say the same thing to myself all the time!

At least you have a lot to freeze! With the single chick born out of my last hatch, my freezer will be empty for a long time!

Hi Verlaj!
Boy o boy o boy......I'm cornfused on that one too. I've spent probably 30 minutes total sitting here scrolling up and down going over your photos and I can't come up with gender, hmm Now with that said, part of me really really really wants to say roo, but don't hold me too that lol! wink lol

Well - time will tell, pinkchick! I've been confused by one of them since they hatched, but everyone agreed back then that there were 2 girls, one boy!

Okay marans fans order your frozen roosters today... Why go to the trouble of shipping and hatching eggs... when you can have the speedy method... No 21 day wait, no worry about guaranteed hatch rates... No problem sexing. Saves time and money... Order yours today!!!! All colors available!!!!

ha ha ha...

I guess that wouldn't come with a guaranteed bake rate or anything now would it??? This would certainly be a shortcut to the end result...

Well, if anyone finds the elusive flock with no white feathers or other serious defects, maybe we should all ban together and hire a mad scientist to do some cloning!

Debbi,, I have recorded some items that I think are linked and will release at some point. Rather not do it at present because I am not prepared for the negative comments. I started a in depth record keeping project and will extend it deeper this fall with all the single matings. I intend to take a picture and keep to compare later. I have some correlated items already but will have much more later. I have 61 inside pens to single mate Black Coppers this winter. I will record egg size, shape, weight, color, color of eye, Shank,

Hey, thanks Don,

I am trying to do better in my record keeping. Things are getting a bit more complicated. So I created some excel spreadsheets and basic data information.

I forgot the egg size! The two Roos with white all in the feathers are now sitting in the fridge-aging for a day or so. What says you? Chicken Divan, Green Chicken Chili or Burritos?

I like your Ad Geebs!

Anyone reading the Forum know of a Black Copper Marans line in the USA that does not produce a large number with white in Wings and Tail ? I would also included the white undercolor in this . If you know of something like this please post on the forum for everyone to see. I would be willing to buy eggs or adults from a flock that would produce fowl without all the white. Must be willing to backup with picture of young and adults. Lets hear from you.

Don~
What do you do with a bird that may have a white wing tip feather upon feathering out and then that white wing tip feather molts out?
Would this bird be a cull in your program from the get go because it had a white wing tip ? I'm just curious.

At present I do not have a problem with white anywhere on the juvenile feathers. After the first molt I cull any white except for the foot feathering and I might cull this in the future. The only way to eliminate this white feathering is to cull them all.

I might be a little harder on the fowl than most but if I can not improve them to where they are acceptable to me then I will cull them all. The males with white will never leave my farm alive.

Sorry to but in here, but have to share my broody Cuckoo Marans hen/pullet just hatched 2 chicks. She is 7 months old and has only layed 4 eggs here whole life. We were on vac when she started sitting so I did not know when hatch day was. 1 is a Cuckoo and the other is a blue cuckoo Olive Egg Layer. Has 2 more to go.
