Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks, pink! I've had a challenging few weeks, but you know, BYC is sort of a safe haven if you know what I mean. It feels good to be getting back into a "normal" state!

Those are some beauties Cook I'm hoping to get some soon myself. Pink on some "blue bred" pullets I have they were supposed to be blue coppers and one shows no copper and the other one just a few flecks of really dark mahogany I put them in with my Cuckoos they were in a mixed pen with some ugly Black Coppers and I got a birchen out of those blues too but he's ugly too in the eating pen now...so I'll just have to see what I get if I decide to hatch some of those out the one that's laying has a darker egg than the cuckoos but how much more is hard to tell as it has that dusty color overlay so it's plum colored...

One of my new Black Copper Marans.. I am so excited about these two new girls. They are so pretty and I love their little fringe on their leg and down the outer toe!!! What do you all think of her?? She is four months old..

She looks nice for her age I hope it's my monitor she doesn't have a yellow cast to her shanks does she? I only know from experience I had a bunch that have yellowish shanks.....in my cull pen now.

The legs appear to be greenish yellow and I see a white ear lobe, These with the brown cast to their feathers I cull from my Marans, others say they are happy with the Brown feathering. If you are just breeding for egg color it will make no difference.

I agree with snowbird... It looks like there is penedesenca in it... and the leg color???? IDK.... Not a good example of proposed breed standard but may make a nice chocolate egg layer!!! Really dark eyes... Not something I would want to breed forward for standard but would eat its eggies.

Sad news... One of Geebs birdies drowned in water bucket... I don't know how they managed this lest someone sat on her.. she was tall enough to step out of it... I had forgotten to put the ladder back in it... It was one of my Bayhorsebonne pullets... so sad... I am going to mourn now... sniff sniff..
