I have PM Walt Leonard and ask him to drop in on the Marans thread and try and answer some of the questions about the White feathers and other faults on the Marans. If he come over it will be a good time to ask someone that knows your questions. He is Chairman of the standards Committe and will know what is a fault and what is a DQ.

Thank you Wynette, the reason he was a cull (not now) was that he was much smaller than the others I am choosing from.
I have 10 BCMarans Roos to pick from and want to start narrowing it down. I would really appreciate any opinions on who to keep and who to cull. Right now I only have one that is a certain cull because he has virtually no color in him and I didn't post pics of him.
Here are some pictures of what I am working with right now and what I have to decide from. I know some are over red but I want to keep one of them to breed with the over dark girls and see what happens.
If I have gotten pictures of Roos mixed up, please forgive me. It is confusing at times!
This pen has #7 blue and #1 blue. I think #7 is the nicest of all the roos but... they keep changing!
#1) 7 blue
#2) 1 blue
This is my first pen with Roos I am saving. It includes # 22 pink who is over red, 3 blue who is fairly nice but not as big as some even though he looks big, 18 green who I think is great, and "Dark Eyes" who I think is great except for his dark eyes--the reason I am keeping him for now is that I hatched him from the darkest egg that I have ever seen in person, it was Hershey Cocoa dark.
#3)18 green
#4)22 pink over red
#5) Dark Eyes the reason I am keeping him for now is that I hatched him from the darkest egg that I have ever seen in person, it was Hershey Cocoa dark
#6) 3 blue
This pens include # 8 green and 20 blue ( This was the "free ranging cull" who you said was good)
#7)8 green
#8)20 blue This was the "free ranging cull" who you said was good
And this is the last pen in which I have #18 who is over red, but I am seeing what happens when I breed him to my overdark hens
Walt, thanks for checking in on the thread. What is your take on the Marans having a solod white feather in the tail or wing or both. I know there is nothing in the proposed standard but believe it should be either a fault or DQ and should be listed in the standard.
Walt, we have also had lots of Black Copper show up on the thread with complete white undercolor in the neck area under the hackle, this should be a fault right.
I'm out for a while guys and gals, I will still be reading this thread but not contributing for awhile as this thread has taken a turn in my opinion, and some not so nice comments and responses have been filtering in, or atleast that's how I see it anyway. Take care everyone and best of luck with all of your birds.
