Hi

There are golden salmons in the US and has been for a very long time. The only way it could have popped up is either from the Wade Jeane line or an out cross.

Bev

Thanks for the info ... one line of these birds (I don't know which color) are from a Wade Jeane line. So tell me, from a genetics perspective, and hopefully using words a layman will understand, how do you get the golden salmon?

Apparently a throwback in this case, but if one wanted to breed for them? Or let me say, if we wanted to get more of them what would we breed?

Connie

Hi

I was given mine a few years ago and I have been breeding them trying to get the egg color darker, this I have done. I am now working on other things to try and improve the line. I know that there are other people doing the same but don't think any one is selling any at the moment.

Wait... there are Golden Salmon in the US then? Who has them? How could a GS appear in a BC line? Aren't they genetically different?

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is do I have to have 2 salmons to breed together or is it a mix of other colors? So let's say this one is a rooster, could I potentially hatch more out by breeding him to a golden laced?

If it's a hen ... what if she's bred to a _______. Or ... what if out of this next batch I get another one and they just happen to be opposite sex (hahaha) if I breed the two of them together will I always get golden salmon or will I get also get something else?

Is my FBCM good quality? I want to breed him to my FBCM hen and wanted to know if they would be worth anything? How much would they be worth if you were to sell there offspring? They are the same age and the hen isnt laying yet so there still young. And in one of the pics it looks like the hen has a white earlobe but she doesnt.

The cockerel has what looks to be a squirrel tail developing, not much breast, and he's a little young but his shoulders should probably be a little more broad.

The pullet looks good so far, but she's young and you can't see much in that photo besides her poor coloring - She needs to actually have copper coloring on her neck. Also I would look into that nearly white earlobe.

If you want a good quality pair, those two wouldn't really work together in my opinion.

Couple of questions. Are they brother and sister ? Does the male have a white undercolor on the hackle feathers ? With that said they both look pretty good to me, to get decent colored BC from this female you will have to breed to a BC male with some copper in the breast area.
