Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I've shown this photo before, sorry. He IS/WAS the only Splash Copper roo that I have hatched and matured with the "BCM/ Blue Copper" copper pattern. The other roos that I have hatched have all taken on the random flecks throughout the body.
He was six months in this photo. I will search for another photo of him that I may have because it took me a year to make the cull decision on this guy. When he was culled he had more copper flecking in his saddles and hackles.

These are 2 other Copper Splash birds that I grew out, I didn't like them either but I liked the one in the second photo better than the first.

#1 it has to be , very nice marans, must be out of your big male.

Thank you Don!

Yes she is out of Bill. I know they are bigger than they should be and that is why I classify them as project birds, but I can't help myself when it comes to their size, I just love it. . I don't let too many of the project birds or eggs go but when someone requests them specifically I am very open and honest with them about being a project.

Don got me thinking about diseases and well.... I just am not going to take something I can't afford to lose so since I keep so few birds... I just opted out... Sorry... I will give it a whirl next year when I know that I have more than one or two decent pullets. (I think I have a good recipe)... We shall see next spring...
