Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

The chick in picture with the brown Down fuzz if it is a BC I would of culled when it hatched, because it will grow up with brown soft feathering under the vent.

Thanks Don. I figured as much i just wanted conformation. Hopefully one of my baby roos may turn out all right.

As I have said before my best friend will not incubate or try to hatch out any Marans eggs, so I do it for her........she is a fancier of the Jeane line birds and especially the Wheatens. Her first batch of eggs she had shipped in from somewhere down south. They were sold to her as Jeane BC. 9 hatched and 3 were Wheatens. Wheatens hatch every time she gives me eggs to set for her. She loves them.

Just curious about these "sport" Wheatons. Has anyone kept them and bred them? Do they breed true to Wheaton color?

Don, I'm not going to argue with you, and I get a bit perturbed at how you always have to infuse negativity in your posts.

I was trying to be helpful to a newer member.

For sure, post your opinion..but please be respectful about it. I don't feel like that's asking too much. What good will it do for you to post a question on how many have hatched wheatens from the W. Jeane line when anyone who has done ANY amount of research knows it to be a fact that this line carries a recessive wheaten gene? I for one have hatched wheatens from W. Jean birds. Not many, but I have hatched them - and, from a VERY reputable breeder, I might add. In California, NOT in Florida, BTW.

Wynette, Thats not a problem will solve for you. If you or anyone else is trying to help the new people , the best way is be truthful and give good info.

Wynette, Nope, you've never bred them? Or nope, they don't breed true?

That's what I'm trying to do, Don - and I have NO issues with YOUR opinion...just please be respectful with how you deliver it. Again, I don't feel like that's too much to ask.
