...or a Marans "hook up" section! "Needed, one long backed, short combed, big and chunky BCM roo looking for love and a new home." sometimes I think it would be easier to start or add adult birds, that way we haven't raised them from babies, and may have a soft spot for them.

VERY INTERESTING ! My girls are less than a year old. Therefore in the winter months they were still small and not laying yet. We have had a HORRID SUMMER. We have set records left and right. We went over 60 days straight with temps over 90. Many of those days the temps were in the 100's.
My leghorns ( with large combs) would just lay on the ground panting. I thought I was gonna lose them. I dipped them in buckets of water several times over the summer. My marans seemed to take the heat better physically, BUT totally stopped laying.
It will be interesting to see if their combs shrink this winter. Todays high 85. Night time temps are nice though - - in the 60's.
I will be watching - - - That is a very interesting thought ! !

NO WAY! I wouldn't trade my soft spot for all these birds for nothing. I feel like the pied piper of chickens the way my birds come when they hear my voice and follow me from destination to destination. My Dh swears he is going to video tape it one day and put it on You tube.
We have 1 Cuckoo pullet who is now 7 months old-is this the correct brown color they would lay-this is the first egg and the other lighter eggs are from Partridge Cochin bantams. Thanks for the help.

I'm just saying, when it comes to cull time, it would be easier not to be so attached. Almost hope Fuglee nails me at least once. "Mean" I can cull in a heart beat!
