Congrats on the Delaware babies! Hold on for those Marans.

I've hatched multi breeds with marans in a bator and the marans always were the ones that hatched last.

How're everyone's egg color doing right now? I believe mine are tapering to a paler shade now that the season is coming to a close. . . But they're not an unacceptable "pale," thank goodness.

I'd love to see how every one else's egg color is doing lately. . .

Nope Illia..definately most definately not unacceptable! I have one girl that is almost a year old and hers are getting quite pale to the point of unacceptable. I love her, my little Angelica, unconditionally though because she's a lap chicken. I expect that she'll stop laying soon and have her break, and then hopefully they'll darken up again. My pullets are just getting started. I'm actually pretty impressed with the one girl so far. I hope the other four follow suit and lay an egg so nice and red.

DOWN here in the SOUTH, I think my season is just starting to ROCK ! ! !
IT is funny reading about the people in the NORTH ending their season NOW. My season ended around May and it is just now starting back up . . .

Villagegeek Total geekiness is sooo refreshing!!! Let me know what you find out. I have questions like this from time to time.. I had a wierd mating come up with a phantom Black birchen on the Wade line.. That was kinda cool... (we did figure it out)... but it was awesome nonetheless.

Okay guys & gals I need a lesson. I tried to google it first so I wouldn't have to show my ignorance but when I tried to find out what exactly mossiness means in the chickens coloring I ended up with antique newspaper articles & hunting for mushrooms.....Yikes!!!
What exactly is mossiness???????? I THINK............. a bunch of my young pullets are mossy. Of course since I am not even sure what mossy is I may be wrong.....LOL I went out after seeing Harris' beautiful pictures & tried to take a zillion pictures. Now I need to pour over them & see if I got anything good to show you, but I have to do that after class tonight.
Is the definition in the book of standards I have one from the 70s around here somewhere. I have NO butts with brown fluff, everybody has black, but most of my girls have lotsa color, probably too much.
Thanks
Karen in California
