Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

copper is that... copper... the color at the top of the wings should be as close to copper as you can get... it usually ends up with mahogany there.... Not a lot of birds have a good copper balance...I will repost one.

That is a terrible picture with the posture and eye thing but I am showing you a uniform (mostly) color across the back of the bird from neck to tail.... you can still see a very slight variance but overall this is a pretty good rendition. This is someone else's bird.

Pink I have a deep appreciation for the parking lot analogy... I like the idea of understanding who is parked adjacent.. both have good value... I don't have the gift of explaining the way you guys do!!!

I will reference another one with good copper balance:

Don:
Please Post me a picture of what you think a good balance is and set me straight on this.

From the MCCU site, proposed standard for the BCM:

Hackle: Deep Copper color (mid-coppery to red-coppery, but not golden or straw colored).
Front of neck: Black with narrow lacing of Deep Copper.
Back:
Back: Lustrous Deep Copper.
Saddle: Deep Copper color matching the hackle.
Tail:
Main Tail: Black with slight luster.
Sickles and Coverts: Lustrous black with glints of beetle Green.
Wings:
Shoulders: Mahogany Red color.

I am asking what you think.... Please correct me here... Is this a good rendition or is it not??? No feelings hurt here..I don't own this bird.. It is merely an example.. would you kindly post an example for me...I am a visual person. Thanks.
