Ohhhhhh.....almost forgot, THANKS everyone for the compliments on the eggs I posted yesterday. I am liking the egg color I am getting alot alot alot alot (from a few select birds). Funny when some of them started laying a few months ago I was extremely disappointed and now those same birds (with the exception of my little Charmy, she has been very constistent from the get go) are laying darker. What gives with that? Anyone? Horrible color at start of lay and almost 4 months later egg color darkens.


Can't wait for the GFF babies to lay.....look I still call them babies and they are going to be 5 mos old very soon.

Thank you Debbi... and as per standard, I would say that the wing bow is mahogany... I was just giving a laymen generalization about the overall look of the bird but thanks for posting the standard again.. Sometimes I forget the ppl will take it verbatem and forget the overall nuance of what I was try to say.. that is why I use pictures... Pink and Villagechickens are wordsmiths.. I am a visual person.. it doesn't always translate.

Hackle: Deep Copper color (mid-coppery to red-coppery, but not golden or straw colored).
Front of neck: Black with narrow lacing of Deep Copper.
Back:
Back: Lustrous Deep Copper.
Saddle: Deep Copper color matching the hackle.Tail:
Main Tail: Black with slight luster.
Sickles and Coverts: Lustrous black with glints of beetle Green.
Wings:
Shoulders: Mahogany Red color.

DON: I didn't ask to see YOUR birds... just show me what you are talking about.. the web is full of examples.. Please explain it to me... The balance of the mahogany is tied into the black and melaniser... that is the balance we are trying to strike and these breeders posted have obviously hit the nail on the head... I am glad to have one of them here on this forum to speak with... what do you think of the birds posted.. do they make the grade in you opinion???

Yes....I test my roosters over light colored egg laying hens, it works great. I was using my Barred Rocks and Buff Orps., but will now have to switch it up with a couple of my Black Sex-links and (KATHYINMO cover your ears, you can't hear this...

)my Delawares as I cleaned house and gave away many many birds that were over 3 years old the other day and my old tester birds were included.
