Hi, I am fairly new to this site so I hope no one minds me joining this thread so late. I have a small flock Black Coppers with a few Blue/Blue Copper pullets not laying yet. I have the chance to buy some Blue Birchen/Blue mix chicks. Are the Blue/Blue Birchen mix ok or will this mix just dilute the Birchen color too much? They will be seperate from my Black Coppers.

I, too, know NOTHING about birchens. Others on here do and will give you their viewpoint when they get online. Some live on the WEST COAST and are still SLEEPING !

Math - Ruth had posted a thread on bumblefoot surgery with lots of pics; as I recall, the pics were a bit grainy, but you could tell what they were, nonetheless. The thread Ruth had put up on Bumblefoot surgery has been restored to my knowledge...Let me do some checking...or, maybe it would just be easiest to contact Monique directly.

Math Ace ~ Lisa, have you tried a poultice on your bad girl's foot? I know from past experiences with horse hoof absesses, that they have to heal from the inside out, and on a horse, that can be a really long process. Ask your vet about Antiphlogistine poultice for use on her foot. It draws the fluids to the surface so it heals from the bottom up. I used to just pack the poultice all around and inside the hoof, pack it with cotton, wrap it with a bandage, and cover with a rubber boot. Don't know if they make rubber boots for chickens, but someone should? It keeps the dirt out really well. Used to change the poultice once a day, and for the horse, it worked well, but took like 3 weeks to totally heal. Just my two cents worth, hope I never have that problem!

Welcome Stickers! I know that somewhere in the recesses of my feeble mind I know something about Birchens but everytime it is asked I go blank. Hoping someone who knows about them comes by to help you out.

Hi xyresicchick~ I know that OntheSpot has a thread going about bantam Marans. I don't know anything about them, sorry. Please keep us updated on your search.
Also, maybe geebs can give us some insight on bantams when she logs on, I know she was researching it for a while.
