Wait wait wait a second. Are you serious? Because I have a roo that is almost solid copper with a blue tail. I was just going to use him for olive eggers- but will the babies lay black eggs?

Sorry but more copper in the hackles does not mean darker eggs. I think what she meant was increasing egg color by using Black Copper birds because the lay the darkest eggs and will lend their dark egg genes. Along with quest for darker eggs, I believe that she may have meant that she could get or work on more coppering in her birds hackles at the same time.

Correct me if I am wrong please Illia.

Kim, some of the biggest name breeders of the BC claim that the more color and mossy included the darker the BC egg. Don

Really? That's awesome. I was going to keep my oddball guy anyway, but he'll definitely be making some olive egger babies now!

edit and delete them or put up smilies Don.

I understand the mossy Don and can see what you are saying in regards to more color, but certainly it is not contingent on the amount of copper in the hackles. See what I am saying.....my statement was that, just because a bird has more copper does not mean that they will neccessarily lay a darker egg. Right?

I will say that it has been my experience that the darkest eggs come from the birds that do not show enough color and have some mossy going on. All birds that I have that are too dark lay the darkest eggs, all birds that I have that are more correct all have laid lighter eggs.
