Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I made them using Bill my very large and very dark blue copper rooster and one of my Blue AM's hens that I use to have. Now being crossed back to their father. One of them lays a lighter egg so I did not include any of her eggs in Raven's package. I am in the process of backcrossing her to Bill in hopes of better olive color in their offspring.

This isn't really a big deal, but I know folks love pics on this thread, and I have a 7 week old cockerel that feathered out differently from what I usually see. I know that the jury is still out as to whether or not juvenile feathering has anything to do with final color, but I'm curious if anyone has seen this in their birds and if it means anything. I know at least some of you obsess, stare at and scrutinize your juvies as they grow!
He has some unusual white feather tips on his chest and thighs. His whole chest was sort of spangled with white when it first started to grow out. I've seen white in the primaries, but not on the body like this.
He seems properly melanized, and in fact has no trace of copper yet, unlike his hatchmate in the background. It looks like he has light shafting but it's just the flash.
Any thoughts? Predictions?

Geebs: my 16 year old dog just pooped in my house for the first time in like 15 years! Come to think of it I can't really hold it like I used to when I was younger either!

Village~ I have not seen that before, but will say that he looks like he is going to be a very nice sized boy.

Pink I don't know what broke the egg, packaging was very nice, box was intact and did not look abused. The good news was that the way you wrapped them none of the other eggs had any goo on them soooo.

Yeah for baby! come on eggies pop like corn!

Village- I know that some breeders used Cuckoo early on with the black coppers to darken egg color...to me, it looks like this boy has telltale signs of cuckoo leaking through.....but, I'm no genetics expert by ANY stretch!
