Very glad to hear that the others didn't get any stuff on them. Thanks, I was hoping the little bubble wrap baggies helped.

Village: don't worry too much about it.. He doesn't have fast melanisers....likely he is growing fast and the color can't keep up... the problem arrises when he is grown up and the white hasn't dissappeared...this is a common thing in some marans lines. It was said by the french at one time to be proof of a true marans... but that could just be one breeders idea.

Thanks Randy! and let me tell you......YOU'VE GOT SOME BEAUTIFUL EGGS & BIRDS there yourself mister. You know I love those Wheatens. I will say this over and over again.....that creamy color on the hens underbodies, is absolutely fabulous to me, then add the contrast of the copper head and back/wing area......that's what I'm talking about!

Here is a pic of one of my first BCMs that had all talking on the old thread. Today, she is a very dark girl, no white anywhere, only a trace of shank feathering, and sparse dark copper in the hackles. When she was first born, she had some odd feather texture going on too. See the spotting on the breast area?? None of the others from that same breeding had this, but she now looks like a BCM. Can't wait to finally single breed her to see what she produces!

Wow she sure turned into a looker! Pretty girl.

Since this is a maran thread- Here is my new rooster-I am new to the breed-How do you think I did?? he is suppose to be show quality, but I dont know the difference? he does have feathered shanks-about 10 months-I do know that his parents came from Bevs marans?

Debbi- thanks for the pictures! Great looking hen. This guy had a lot of white chickdown too, but not as much as your hen.

Geebs - that's EXACTLY that I was thinking. He was a fast grower/featherer, and it seemed like the black just kicked in a couple days late. But I wasn't sure.

These are UK sourced eggs. It will be interesting to see him grow up.

heather he is beautiful but somebody will say his tail is high and hes too dark but my only questions is what kind of eggs will his daughters lay? congratulations on your boy.
