Iwill often times allow perfect to be the enemy of good enough. There was one persone she showed photos of Black Marans but I think her feelings were broken.
This is a silly question, but here goes. I have two BCM hens that I love, but have chosen not to breed or get a roo because I am afraid that their large combs will get frostbitten in the frigid Iowa winters. As a control I put a maran egg in with some hatching eggs I bought to make sure my incubator was functioning properly. The large healthy chick that hatched out ends up a pullet that looks like a BCM, but has the 5 toes and rose comb of her father, a red rose comb dorking. What do you think her eggs will look like?? The Dorkings lay white eggs, and my BCM lay beautiful very dark copper eggs.

now thats strange out of many amny roos i raised (wheatens) i didnt have any with white feathers in wing not one only cotton tail the , davis stock and buddy henery stock (wonderful people ) to me and my small operation many many = 30+ roo
i wonder if theres anything to learn from that ? what lines do u have don ?

Kim, I haven't tried breeding any of the males without white fluff and white in wing. In my mind I think all the white is tied together just like the BC. I know others say the white feathers and undercolor are not connected. The only thing I can say is for them to prove it somehow. To cut down on my culls I will cull any birds that has major faults from here on in. Don

i talk to my eggs and they answer , how crazy am i ,,, i call all my chickens eather kids or girls and i do the same for the eggs and they start chirping around 1day 20 or late day 19 i use to use a styro bator with the metal bottem and id tap the side and watch em role lol its good exercize (for the eggs) lol lol not me

about 2 years ago when i started with wheaten i had a presley (budy henery ) 1 roo out of around 6 i picked and one davis line roo and it ended up that i kept the davis roo and never used the presley line roo in my flock ,,it turned out i liked the body type of the davis rooster ,,,the davis roo seemed bigger and better body type in the birds i had to pick threw .... don ok so hears the thing,,, i dont have white in the wings on roos sired by davis roos over presley hens (budy henery ) could it be that it (white in wings ) comes from roos only ? in perticular the presley line ? but the roo carries it ?
kuzz i could send ya some wheaten eggs and if i were to hatch em they would be all roo lol but it might solve your white wing thing ....ps like i say to everyone i am 6 years new to chickens and 2 years new to wheaten marans only ....

How many judges are there going to be judging the Marans for the qualifying?? Don, did you say Walt will be one of them?
As for not bringing any birds with faults, well, how does that happen? There are faults on all birds. Maybe better to phrase it as, "bring the best of your best after researching the proposed SOP". Then there is the individual opinons of the judges. One may be a comb freak, whereas one may be a tailset freak. One may love mahogany colored hackles even if it's not preferred, and another may like lighter colored hackles. The ideal would be if all judges went by the proposed SOP, but let's face it, that just doesn't happen a lot of the time. They are going to HAVE TO judge from the SOP and NOT by comparison as they usually do, for the breed to be accepted. Judges' personal preferences should be put aside, SOP studied, and applied. Hopefully, that will be the case; and hopefully, people will bring only their best! I sure wish I could go to watch and learn!!
