I think Jenny at GFF told me they were 7 wks old. They are larger than I was expecting, but that is a good thing. I want large as I plan to eat any unwanted birds that I breed. I can't wait to get a better look at them when they are feeling more settled, I will have a photo shoot maybe this weekend!

Jenny...wasn't she a sweetheart?

Yes Jenny was very nice. She worked really hard to make sure I got what I ordered. It is too bad they have desided to no longer carry the BCM. But as I keep reading here they are difficult birds to breed true.
I am so excited to start breeding them myself and see what I can come up with, I think body size and egg color are going to be my first priorities. I really like ON's idea of a small comb or pea comb maran, though I know that it would be just end up being another mutt.

Mornin' all..

Had a bit of a health scare yesterday. Guess I survived, cause here I am

Pink ~ The eggs go into lockdown on Sunday!

Seems like it goes faster with this bator, as I can't see in without a flashlight. Keeps me from watching eggs just sitting there!

Didn't bother to candle, guess if they hatch, they hatch.

For sure, not my idea of fun. Roads were terribly icy here too yesterday, if I had had to call an ambulance it would've been very hard for them to get to me. Called my dear friend and just asked her to call me every now and then throughout the day. Bless her heart, she was going to try to come down here, but I told her no! So she called every few hours, and in the meantime I just took it easy and chugged lemon juice and water all day long. Feel better this morning..

AHA! I thought so! Guess I can say, "I told you so."

My girls got a nice, new heated water bowl. I'm going to set it on a block, inside a wooden box with a slanted top so they can't step up on it to tip it over, poop in it, or roost over it. I just felt like they weren't getting enough water with as fast as things were freezing up around here.

Ivy, why not just use a heated poultry waterer? The roosters cannot get their wattles nearly as wet with one:

I have them in each of my pens, and they are SO worth their weight in gold! At least to me!

Wynette- Because I don't have one. HOWEVER-I am not opposed to getting one. Is there one you would suggest that is not too expensive? Right now the one I have is in my layer pen. No roosters in there. Since we are still in the process of expanding pens etc. I am open to any suggestions.
