I think it's neat to see what others make and how well it works for them... here is our new homemade incubator that DH put together so we could begin running test hatches

What a great looking incubator. I am looking for a large non-working wine cooler to make a new bator from. I have been gathering parts for awhile.

I had the coolest day today

I went to a lady's house that works with the Key West Wildlife Center that rescues Key West chickens due to some people not wanting them around because they don't want them messing up thier new yards etc. The chickens and thier descendants have roamed wild in Key West for the past 175 yrs or more, previously coming off of pirate ships and from immigrants from Cuba, Spain, and Puerto Rico who brought thier fighting cocks and other loved chickens with them. Anyhow, I adopted 5 Key West chickens (1 gorgeous rooster and 4 hens).
The money all goes back into the Rescue and to feed them etc. I saw so many cool looking birds today!! I even got a certificate of Authenticity for the chickens signed by the mayor of Key West lol. If anyone is ever interested in adopting some they can pm me and I will give you the lady's info. She even ships birds.

Has anyone ever heard of a rose comb maran or heard of anybody working on them? If you were going to try to make them what would you use to introduce the rose comb?

cool idea for your flock, are
you trying to keep the dark eggs and keeep the comb from freezing ? but corination and pea comb and strawberry comb are a big no no for most and un desired trates and would not be a marans to most people and might loose egg color for sure but would be a wonderful idea if thats the comb you like , enjoy

flgarden... you will need two of those wine coolers.. ha ha... They do such a fabulous job of egg keeping you may find you aren't ready to convert it....That is what happened to me!!! I have a converted antique Coleman... the metal ones... Fabulous bator... the homemade ones are the bomb...EASY TO CLEAN!!!

I am very glad that these are helpful to byc'ers. Funny thing is that I have an electrician for a DH and still don't have any myself yet.

I spent ALL day working on this hatcher. I enjoyed the challenge, but now frustrated with trying to get the thermostat set right and the humidity high enough. Any ideas appreciated.

I have eggs that will be ready to put in "lock down" tomorrow so I hope I can get the hatcher settled in time.
