My grandmom makes lefse in a big skillet / griddle. We eat it with butter and brown sugar on it . . . .

Pink - - we may just be sister chicks after all. You don't by chance have relatives from Canada or Wisconsin areas ? ? ?

I told you!!!!!

Butter, brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon or sometimes Gramma would roll up blood sausage and a fried egg in them....yummy! I have my Gramma lefse grill, once a year my sisters and I get together and make lefse for the whole family.
I have relatives everywhere....I couldn't even begin to name all the places, but mostly they started out in Minne"snow"ta then came out to the West Coast and settled near Seattle.

Hey....how are your girls doing? Any eggs lately?

PINK!!!
You love Ouray and your Norse!!! You have to visit sometime... I just made a huge batch of Krumkake last friday and we're having lutefisk and sutesupe (sp?) for Christmas. And what would Christmas be with out Lefse

Good morning all!

I think I asked this very question a long ways back too, but never got much of a response. My first cockerel started crowing at 8 weeks. Pip started crowing at 8 weeks. The three boys from the last clutch started crowing at 7 weeks! In the first clutch, with the three pullets, one started laying at 5 months old, the next started shortly after her, and the third started about 6 months. There were no other chicks in the second clutch. In the third clutch there are two pullets that seem to be maturing at a good clip, they are only 3.5 months old.

I sure hope there is a corralation between the crowing and early maturity/laying! In my mind, that would be something desireable to breed towards.

Well I candled last night (or tryed to) did find one egg with cracks that I had missed so down to 6 Marans 2 Olive and 2 Wellies. Very hard to see but some had what I think was development A couple didn't look as if they were doing anything at all but left all in was very excited to (maybe) see some that were going so may get something after all the rough housing dog party Pink your babys are strong strong!

Something must have changed very recently or this statment is absolutely not true. I spent big money to get 2 dozen crappy eggs from them that didn't hatch. Theirs were a standard 4-5. Nice sized, but nowhere near an 8.

Did you happen to save any of the shells from these eggs that you purchased? Can you share photos of them?

I have taken many many many many photos of eggs and it is very difficult to get true color accuracy in a photo. I have seen 2 eggs that were at the very most a very strong 7 possibly an 8 on my MCC egg color chart, they were shipped eggs from somewhere in GA, I have no clue who they came from as they were purchased by my best friend and I hatched them for her. I can tell you that they were of Wade Jeane lines and they were gorgeous. The rest of the eggs that came in that batch all varied between atleast 5's and 6's. I personally love the deep ruby red russet eggs more than the dark "hershey" colored eggs, but that is just me.

No I don't have any left. I compared them to my old egg chart I have though for color. They became garbage material. I asked for a reshipment because something must have happened, and she said flatly "no" and she was snotty about it. Granted, I know there are no guarantees, but at the same time, in the same dang incubator, I hatched 9 of 15 eggs from Bev set the exact same day. I hatched 0 of 30 from them. $120 bye bye.

The Wade Jeane egg color rocks. I have some of those too. Mine are more like 6s - 6 1/2s though. Still love them.

your Adam is a very much like my BCM rooster Frodo, even down to the couple of feathers on the middle toe. Where did you get him?

Pink ~ The little stinker that started it's pip yesterday must've decided it was too early, and has pulled the piece of shell back over the hole!

I've had a couple of other chicks do that too, and they both hatched with no problems. The egg next to it was rocking like crazy last night, and once this morning. Today is day 20, so all is still hopeful. No peeping yet from anyone, but that may change today. C'mon babies!!!

krumkake!!!!! Yummy! What no fattigmann? No komle (potato dumplings), no lapskaus (lamb and barley soup)? Now lutefisk is an accquired taste here at my house and normally it is only my father who will dare!

Lots of rain here too Denny. Aaron (my son) keeps putting out more straw.
In my mixed layer pen I am now getting an egg a day (better than the NONE I have been getting for so long). I think it is one of the hatchery Cuckoo Marans by the shape. Your Delawares are still laying away & doing fine. The eggs are small but I love them & they are such curious chickens..LOL They run up to me when I feed even though their feed dish has feed in it. I accidently let the door swing open one day & one of the pullets got out into the big pwn with all the Marans. Wow that rooster of mine was over checking her out pronto. I got between them & with much difficulty finally got her back in. She wanted to be with her friends I am sure.....LOL The Marans rooster did such a funny little side stepping dance towards here while she was out with him though. I had to giggle at his behavior. It's not like he doesn't have enough girls of his own to take care of out there with him all the time.............. It much just be the nature of the beast.....
Try to stay dry & I will do the same.
