When they give you the "Stink Eye", you'd better RUUUUUUNNNNN!!!! I had some on my old mail route, and they would all run to my truck and worry the fenceline making snorting noises at me. Cute as babies, really pretty eggs, but a little voice in my head advised me to stay away from that mess!!

I wonder, though, if you raised them by hand, and had just one....yes, it'd be lonely, but I'd think much friendlier? I have NO clue as I've never seen one up close, even! if I ever DID hatch one, I'd likely hatch one, raise it to juvie age, then hatch another...this way, I'd be able to bond with each of them individually.

Yes, I know how loud the pea cocks are! We lived on a farm that my parents rented a house from the farmer, when I was a kid. He had quite a few of them, and they all went off when anything different appeared or moved. He had about 10 males, no telling how many hens, and they were all free range and roosted in the barn at night up in the hay loft. I kind of like their noise, but most folks out here would rather shoot them than listen to them!

They are soooo pretty though...

Not necessarily. There is a guy near town here that has raised them for years now. I guess the males can get pretty nasty when they start feeling their hormones, and they kick! I'm only 5'2" tall, and when I'd stand near them, they were at least a foot taller than me. I'd hate to think I'd need a gun with me everytime I went to their pen...don't know, but sure wouldn't trust the vinegar water to work with them!

Yeah, good point, Debbi. Sigh.

Even the younguns are really strong... They are HEAVY and like to sit on rooftops.. They can damage things with the wieght.... my friend had to trap and remove the nieghbors peafowl as they were damaging her roof.... If you have close nieghbors I would think twice about it... I had four... they made quite a wind when they would fly overhead.... SOOOOO COOOOOOOL

I'm not trying to discourage you Wynette, just passing on what little I know. I'd hate to think of getting kicked then pecked to death by big bird!

Just a bit more than I can wrap my little brain around!
